Smrt is a defensive play, upside would be limited becos any price incr in fares would have to be approved by the PTC. It must be seen as a public transport and must be for the masses. I like the available advertisment space though. It depends on your time horizon. As I have mention before, MRT is the way to go in S'pore, just like HKG. Population imports?? was it 6.5 million by 2015.?? Cannot remember. This could be part of your overall portfolio in the Tpt segment. Vested
Dear all SMRT investors (retail investors and Big Boys),
a. Mr Ong Ye Kung Director SMRT just bought 10,000 shares of SMRT at S$1.72/share on 8 Aug 2009. What does it mean? It probably means great confidence on SMRT shares and the shares likely to surge upwards in the coming months. If we look at SMRT shares in the recent Straits Times report on Tamasek's porforlio, SMRT's gain in value this year is only 11%, as compared to more than 50% for other Tamasek's shares.
b. With other Stages Circle Line stages progressively opening next year (2010), it will be boon to SMRT's revenue and profits should surge with the rise in ridership.
c. SMRT's revenues (through greater retail/rentals at the new SMRT and existing stations, from observations) and greater Circle Line contibutations next year, will ensure the net profits to grow upwards and it just mean that SMRT is a growth stock, yet to reach its potential yet.
hi wongmx6, well, since u sold on XD , u will get the dividend.

Hi Alligator,
All the time i thought we need to wait until Book Closure date to get our Dividend.
I still remember, not long ago i learned it from you that we just needed to hold until XD.
Today i sold my CCT just after it turn XD because i trust your post.
Thanks. |
so long as you holding the stock before XD, you will get the dividend. After XD you sell ur stock, you still get the dividend. so XD is the entitlement date. but if you buy on XD you dont get it. must buy before xd.
Hi Peg Li,
Thanks for your post, You are right, it's hard to say,
Just want to clear the cloud, My post was more related to when is the entitlement of Dividend (after XD or Book Closure Date).
The answer from Alligator was after XD.
it is right sometimes, it is not right sometimes.
give u example.
SMRT before XD, around 1.82, after xd around 1.7, dividend is aournd 7cent.
if you sell it before XD, you make more.
M1 before XD, around 1.78 , after xd around 1.69m divident is around 6 cent.
if you sell it before XD, you make more.
these are defensive stock, for those perodic stock ,if in the bull market, even XD, the price maybe still go up, so for those , I think you can hold until xd.
for these defensive counters, it is hard to say!

For practical reason on knowing whether one get the dividend , there is no need for anyone to know much about BCD or Book Closure Date.
What is most important is to understand Ex-Date. The practical meaning is on this date the share trading will be EXCLUDE-whatever ( be dividend, rights, bonus, all,)
So, just talk about Dividend, on XD date, all shares are traded EXCLUDE-DIVIDEND, so what that means to buyer and seller are
1. BUYER, buyer buy share without dividend, ===>> so buyer dun get dividend...
2. SELLER, seller sell share excluding dividend ====>> so seller keep the dividend.
So if you are the potential SELLER, and you just want to dispose you share , on the XD date, you sell share, you will keep the dividend.

Do no sell on XD date else you will no get the dividen. As this is no the book closure date ( time to calculate the share dividen brought by share holder and closing the account).
If a company announces book closure as 1 January, shareholders who as on that day own the stock will be entitled to the dividend/bonus/split benefit. e.g. If Mr. Y buys this stock from Mr. X on 2 January, the benefit of bonus issue or splits or dividend will still be transferred to Mr. X by the company. |

What is 'Book closure' / 'Record Date'?
While a company a dividend, right/ bonus shares or intends to hold any AGM/ EGM; it declares a book legislature closer provider/ Record Date to register the name of shareholders.
Only shareholders whose names appear on the register after the book closure/ Record Date are eligible to attend in the AGM/ EGM and also to receive dividends & bonus shares and entitlement to right shares, if any.
Don't quite understand??
When see CD, should not sell.
Once XD occurred, should be able to sell ah....
I haven't encounter any problem....b4 leh.
