Singapore healthcare: Star performer this year

Summary:

Singapore’s healthcare sector has benefited from the buoyant recovery of the Singapore economy.

The recent acquisition of Parkway Holdings has also sparked much interest and hype, leading most healthcare stocks to post impressive YTD returns.

The fundamentals of the industry remain strong, boosted by the lucrative medical tourism business and the increasing need for quality healthcare services.

This rides on Singapore’s ability to offer high quality and sophisticated surgical procedures and state-of-the-art medical infrastructure.

With an aging population and the increase in non-resident population growth, these will provide further catalysts for growth and demand in the industry.

Agree. Health care will never go out of business.  Be it good times or times. When one falls ill, he has to seek treatment no matter what.

Healthway runs a chain of clinics.  I do see a good potential for this counter.  Share price may fluctuate over a short term. In the longer term, we are likely to see growth with good returns.

Stock Calls

Healthway Medical

Buy | 17.5 cents

DMG cuts the target price to 23 cents from 30 cents after slashing the FY10 earnings estimate to $4.7 million from $16 million to reflect weak 2Q10 results and higher-than-expected start-up costs.

But it keeps the Buy call, saying “revenue is expected to pick up strongly in FY11, with full-year contribution from its new medical centres in China”.
