Prospect of MRT network --

In another 20 - 30 years time, more lines (major lines/circle lines or sub-circle lines etc)   will be added to existing MRT network.    Bullet trains will be in sight to link the south/east/north/west of singapore.        Most SBS buses will be taken out of the roads, probably only left with feeder buses left to service routes / roads that are not reacheable by the 'train lines'..

SMRT is a defensive stock - not favoured during a bull run. From Mar low to-date it is still trading at about the same price with small gain. But I notice there are now so many retail shops around MRT stations. This rental income is pure profit to SMRT 'cos the space is already there for free & could drive its earnings up significantly in coming reports.

The money for building the Circle line didn't come from SMRT's kitty. What they have to worry about is paying for is operating and maintenance cost. So ridership or rental income have to be more than those costs.

Building of circle line costs huge amt of money and will not see immediate profit.

So, what is the impact of this news on SMRT's stock price?  Some comments on this would be more meaningful than just a mere reproduction of what's in the news.

SMRT issuing 5-year notes worth S$150mil
18 Sep 2009

Transport firm SMRT said late yesterday that it will issue five-year fixed-rate notes totalling 150 million dollars.

In a filing, SMRT says the notes will carry a 2.42 percent coupon and mature in October 2014.

Net proceeds from the issue will be used for general corporate funding requirements.

The bonds will be issued under a 1 billion dollar multicurrency guaranteed medium-term note program established by its subsidiary, SMRT Capital.

Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp is the arranger for the notes programme.

side track to SingPost:

If SingPost business depends on you and me (and those kids) posting letter, it would have close shop long ago. Unless gahment and/or companies like telcos/brokerages/banks stop sending letters, notices, bills, statements (monthly/yearly), etc. to all of us, then ok close shop. I'm also happy to save the Earth, but meanwhile....

Re: singpost -

I nearly fainted when i came to know some secondary school students posted letters without pasting STAMP!!  The reason being told was  they had never posted a single letter before cos they only communicated thru SMS, MSN, Email and webcam.  Am wondering if they mistook 'prepaid' envelope as ordinary envelope that can be posted without using stamp?

They had never bought stamp in their entire life too and dont know how much per piece is costing.  Is it still 22 cents?

p/s - Can Singpost sustain its business when communication just a click away?

this burger is down for some reasons....typically ridership is lower than expectation...also the circle Line is still not making $$ as Ridership is low...i think recent PTC has mandated some service level on buses w/o passing extra costs to passenger ...so i guess some impact on this burger too.. :P
