Very briefly :

1. Starhub does not make from the Sports channels

2. Singtel needs to spend $$$$ to upgrade its system and connectivity/capture areas

3. Not many Starhub subscribers will switch over and will just retain it for other entertainment/news/documentary channels

4. The ROI will take years for Singtel

5. Getting the rights is just to save face for Singtel and Starhub in this instance is prudent.

6. M1 and Starhub may just join force to break the monopoly - our IDA may also do something about this as there are so many unhappy subscribers.

 DJ MARKET TALK: StarHub +0.5%; EPL Worries Overdone - CLSA

 

[Dow Jones] StarHub (CC3.SG) still lagging market as recent news of loss of English Premier League (EPL) rights, ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) channels weighs. But stock stabilizing, ended flat yesterday while currently +0.5% at S$1.98 today (vs STI +1.0%), having fallen 9% since rival SingTel (Z74.SG) announced it had won EPL rights. Order book quotes suggest resistance at S$2.00 range near-term. CLSA says EPL worries overdone, "the sharp correction in Starhub's share price implies an overly negative view of the impact from the loss of EPL & ESS." Says subscriber exodus unlikely, broker's snap survey of customers suggested only 15% plan to terminate their contract with StarHub. Broker thinks regulatory intervention is likely as says SingTel used its massive balance sheet to threaten StarHub's business model, benefits for consumers doubtful. Maintains Outperform rating, though cuts target price to S$2.09 from S$2.29. (KIG)

BB no crystal ball but they have PAID news informtion that bring them ahead at least 1/2 before CNBC even noes 

 

how can BB know something? they have crystal ball? or they have spy in govt?

 

Singtel are dropping at high vol and starhub start to go up after lunch open.

My thinking: Somethings may be coming. Government MAY force singtel to share the rights for EPL.

BB already got the news so they are selling singtel fast.

 

 

Starhub may congest in a tight up-sloping smallish wedge before feather floating downward...

But only may.

Always remember this...  nothing is for sure... 

Thus, always be ready to admit wrong promptly...
