Ecuador Cancels Trade Pact Over U.S. ‘Blackmail’ in Snowden Case

Ecuador, the South American nation mulling an asylum request from fugitive U.S. intelligence leaker Edward Snowden, renounced its U.S. trade benefits today, saying they were being used as “blackmail.”

“Ecuador doesn’t accept pressure or threats from anyone,” Communications Secretary Fernando Alvarado said in a statement published in the presidential gazette. “It doesn’t barter its principals or submit to mercantile interests, however important they may be.”

Life Is A Gift

Today before you think of saying an unkind word–
think of someone who can’t speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food–
think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your husband or wife–
think of someone who is crying out to God for a companion.

Today before you complain about life–
think of someone who went too early to heaven.

Before you complain about your children–
think of someone who desires children but they’re barren.

Before you argue about your dirty house, someone didn’t clean or sweep–
think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the distance you drive–
think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job–
think of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wished they had your job.

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another–
remember that not one of us are without sin and we all answer to one maker.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down–
put a smile on your face and thank God you’re alive and still around.

Life is a gift – Live it, Enjoy it, Celebrate it, and Fulfill it.

Not easy lah.   Singaporeans never united in a cause.

Anyway to be fair, nobody wants the haze problem to happen.   Clearing farms through burning had been one of the oldest traditional and cheapest ways of doing it. Law enforcement should be put in place to prevent such indiscriminate burning to clear a land.   Indonesia must understand that its peoples are living side by side with others and the world is very small, and what affects its environment will also affect its neighbours..   .

Yesterday the corrupted Indonesian official said the Singaporeans are like spoilt brat, complaining too much!. Another corrupted Indonesian official said that burning in Sumatra is their internal affair, foreigners are not supposed to meddle with their internal affair! Be clever to shift their argument here and there to suit their purpose! CORRUPTION! We must BOYCOTT their products for a year to let them know that  we meant business and not so easily bullied! Pass the word to boycott Indonesian products verbally even we are not buying anything. Whenever we buy something we should ask the vendor " Is it from Indoneisa?" If yes we don't buy. If no, then we tell them we are not buying any Indonesian product for 1 year to protest against their irresponsible behaviour towards environment! Sinaporean and Malaysian must rise up to this occasion or else this problem will not be solved for another 10 years. Pls pass this message to as many people as possible. Unity is our strength.

Edward knew what he and probably his family, would get from the authorities and he went to do it (revealed everything) because he believes that be an honorable man must is better than be a villain. To the outside world he will become a hero for the whistle blowing of infringement of human rights, privacy, and liberties that Abraham Lincoln so cherished that he went to mold a free America.. He would be rated honorable. To his homeland government, who went beyond the bounds of the principles they so strongly professed, he is viewed as a villain.

You ask me, how you find him and I will say he is a true hero.

Edward Snowden and His Wake-up Call to Net Users ....

  By Kai-Fu Lee

... This scandal has seriously harmed the reputation of the United States. However, it should encourage global citizens to think about human rights in the Internet age, in particular about people's privacy and the rights to property and the freedom derived from it.

... These rights are clearly defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaimed by United Nations as such: " No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honor and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks."

In the age of big data, which we are entering, those in power will possess even greater power. Mass storage coupled with machine learning and data mining can greatly enhance the efficiency of monitoring. Not only is our information peeped at, our voices can be overheard and automatically identified.  Snowden also mentioned this point.

Our online behavior can be monitored too. What we buy online and download, what we say to strangers, and even our geo-location can be under the control of a program such as Prism. This kind of intelligent software can even predict the decisions we make and the things we do in the future.

... Hopefully, the Prism program and Edward Snowden's revelations will awake the sleeping netizens of the world and make them understand that in the virtual environment, they are at an absolute disadvantage with those in power. We urgently need to set up limits, to balance and to hold accountable our rulers.

We must take note that PM2.5 is a lot serious indicator as  the small particles will be embedded in the lung for a long time and may be lead to cancerous growth. For the sake of all Singaporeans, we must be prepared not to buy Indonesia products but buy from other countries even though may cost more. When the demand for indonesian product drops, they will no incentive to burn so many acres of land to grow more.
