Bengster, thank you for your insightful comments.  2 months ago, I read your comments and started doing more indepth analysis on BIG.  What tilt the balance for me was the promising results revealed at TCT 2007.   Subsequently bought into a 60+ lots position at average of 0.69.  Agreed with your assessment that BIG is definitely a multi bagger in the making.....expect greater things to follow in the weeks/months ahead.  Again, thanks for your all your valuable postings.

I take special interest in takeover analysis of BIG as this will be the "father" of chiong.Do not under-estimate Abbott's chances as the takeover buyer of BIG.

Abbott is embarking on biodegredable polymer path via ABSORB clinical trial. ABSORB uses BIG's PLA biodegredable polymer and Everolimus drug. However, BIG owns that crucial DES patent of "limus drugs on biodegredable polymer". This is the main reason why Abbott gave in and compensated BIG US$15m in May 2007 to pacify BIG's legal case against Guidant (now part of Abbott). Abbott knew somehow in future they will be at the mercy of BIG for that crucial patent. BIG can squeeze Abbott's balls after ABSORB's regulatory approvals to sell by instituting worldwide injunction to stop ABSORB DES from selling for breach of BIG's patent. I told forumers before this key BIG's patent is actually worth hundreds of millions when fully utilised. BIG will be in a very good position to demand very favourable royalty of sales from ABSORB DES to release worldwide injunction of ABSORB DES. If Abbott buys over BIG, they will represent the future of DES as this industry clearly is heading towards that direction. MDT, JNJ and BSX is still stuck in durable polymer era. If rivals of Abbott like JNJ buy over BIG, Abbott's ABSORB DES program will run into serious trouble because JNJ will be a much harder nut to crack than BIG since BIG is small and use agreed royalty terms can solve the patent breach problem. The patent holder will not stop others from breaching the patent initially. Only after regulatory approvals to sell the new product, then the patent holder. Why waste money to start suing in case the product may not be commercialised? This is to reduce potential wastage of legal costs and to maximise the damage of the patent breacher so as to extract out the maximimum gains for the patent holder: By squeezing our opponent's balls at their most crucial stage of product commercialisation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BIG will not start legal action for breach of patent against ABT now since ABSORB is still under clinical trials and not commercialised yet. It will be a waste of financial resources if BIG start suing everyone that breaches this patent. BIG will wait for ABSORB DES to get regulatory approvals, then BIG will commence legal action. ABT will be caught with heavy stakes on the line (after investing so much in ABSORB DES program) and have no choice but to negotiate with BIG or face worldwide injunction. BIG will be in a very favourable position to ask for a huge fee. Fees are normally broken into market size to according to countries using CE and FDA standards. Eg: for CE markets, BIG can demand a lump sum fee of US$100m and 15% royalty of sales. For USA market, BIG can demand another lump sum fee of US$150m and 15% royalty of sales settlement package for breach of patent.

Please note that ABT has their own patented anti-proliferative DES drug called zotarolimus (ABT-578). But ABT discarded their own in-house patented drug for Everolimus (patented by Novartis). Everolimus drug was discarded by BIG after BIG have their own patented BiolimusA9 drug. And Medtronic is still using zotarolimus for all the Endeavor stent programs (so that makes ABT-578 a 3rd rated anti-proliferative drug). JNJ uses Sirolimus (commonly know as rapamycin) licensed from Wyeth. BIG's patented BiolimusA9 drug is a derivative from Sirolimus (analogue version) plus it has fat-seeking properties, best for treatment against the fatty plaque damaged during angioplasty. This is why we can see restenosis rate of biomatrix is the lowest among all the DESs because BiolimusA9 drug is the best immunosuppressive agent ever invented and patented.

BIG, if not acquired, is a small company and money matters can solve this worldwide injunction. Its only a matter of dollars and cents for ABT. If BIG is bought over by JNJ, ABT will be in serious trouble. JNJ may not even want to accept any settlement offers to lift worldwide injunction since both are arch enemies in the DES industry. When this happens, both ABT and JNJ will have to negotiate on breach of other patent related matters. Both JNJ and ABT are in medical device and pharmaceutical industries and there will always be patent litigations. If under the JNJ group, one of their pharmaceutical drug formula breaches an ABT drug patent, then both JNJ and ABT can work out a package like "exchange of hostages", plus some form of compensation fee to balance out.

Im explaining this patent related matter in full detail so that investors can know how powerful BIG's patent of "any limus drug on biodegredable polymer" really is and its potential worth since the DES industry is clearly heading towards the limus family drug and biodegredable polymer direction. Angiotech (Canadian company) holds the patent of "Paclitaxel drug on polymer" and made hundreds of millions from Boston Scientific just on this patent. Conor breaches this Angiotech's patent and suffered worldwide injunction of Costar DES even though Costar was CE approved. Same fate for India's SMT Corp. Their Inffinium DES got CE approval but was banned from selling in all CE approved countries for breach of Angiotech's patent.

JNJ was the DES pioneer but unfortunately they didn't hold the patent of "limus drug on polymer" or "any limus drug on durable polymer". If JNJ has this patent, JNJ will still be the DES leader because so many new DESs will be in breach of this patent as new comers like Xience and Endeavor both are using limus drug on durable polymer. JNJ can simply do the worldwide injunction for patent breach on Xience and Endeavor. This is the real power of patents and this intangible asset not valued in financial statements, not appreciated or even known by investors. One fine day, BIG's patent "any limus drug on biodegredable polymer" will be easily worth hundreds of millions.

durian is dropping, run for your life !!!!

Don't know how you can get your "ELITE" status. You probably don't understand / appreciate any paragragh of my long thesis on Abbott's potential as takeover candidate. Since you are probably on pension already, ou should be around long enough to know that stock charts don't move in straight up linear line. They move in up and down, up and down. However, the upward trend is pretty clear here.

Anyway your analogy using durians sucks because kampong guys love to see dropped durians so they can makan the delicious fruit. And durians only drop at night when everyone is sleeping, not in the day time.
