Ok friends, I am calling it an early day.

Going for some shopping therapy.

Elf,

thanks for the advice. Especially the last part, "losing some battles to win the war". Well, as for those counter(s) I'm holding...likely u might be holding as well or already have cut recently.

Sarkozy Writes To Merkel On Markets London, August 16.

The contents of the letter from the French President, Sarkozy, to the German Chancellor, Merkel, are being digested at present. Newswires are running these observations on financial markets in bullet point form with the highlight thus far centering on the need for "preventing market tensions from spreading into the real economy".
FX dealers will see the calls for "discussions with central banks, G7 and the IMF" as an interesting point while broader markets will note the words of caution that "we must avoid taking measures that would hold back world growth and the financing of economies". We find the comments that "financial market movements will not have any lasting impact on growth" as the most encouraging call for the short-term outlook.

it is interesting to note those super high profile traders like happyday and others are not posting in SJ why? in bear market cannot post stock calls anymore? this bear moment only reflect the truly efficient stock market player is always there during BOTH bear and bull. only then can you really be the winner in the end. panic selling should be the time to buy in for selected stocks instead in my opinion. furthermore past few days financials for some stocks are very encouraging indeed. it is not as if one after another posting huge losses implying the whole Spore economy is in peril isn't it? emotion can be a powerful beast indeed.

Reply to Sohguanh..notice happyday has not been posting in SJ becoz he/she was banned after suceesssfully
call buys for Banjoo,Jade,Equation,Jland,,Chinamilk,Valuetronics...besides he/she also shouted sell calls for Magnus,Biosensor,UnitedFibre,Biotreat,fungchoi,GMG,Suneast,Firstlink....those who heeded made gd profits esp for Jade and banjoo....U can still see him/her posting in CNA forum..busy shorting the market..understand he is still making $$$ from the down market

Bleeding in a sense the stock portfolio is thinning (sold 'with profit' quite a fair bit these days when it rallied. Employing Sell On Rallies strategy) and I kinda hate it when I have to buy again.  When you buy, its always in a volatile period where 1/2 of the people are SELLING and 1/2 are BUYING. Even in a confirmed trend reversal, you may still hit with a dead cat bounce.  sigh~ life like this....

Hows your PUT going?  Covered or still scoring?

l_tan888,

true, the market is in need of fresh funds, a rate cut will help but this cut is also a double edged sword.

ruanlai,

this is a no no......if this does happen Ben must quit.....

ehhh... sohguanh, the named counters will not drop to below $1 lah. that's more than half their NAVs. hehe.

but roughly, the jan 06 prices is a good gauge, for real bottom fishing. ;)

and in case anyone is seeing this as a buy call: am interested in the named counters but NOT YET. now's not the time for heroics pls.

fed will not cut rates. that will make the problem worse. if they do cut rates (aka, kena arm-twisted by the world), it'd be a temp upspike, then you'd see a real slide. ie, dow to 11,000, rather than 12,600. rem that in a bear market, all markets have always given up 100% of their gains.

like what manikamaniko says, there is no difference each time, because human behaviour does not change.

yeps red1721, glad to see another forumer having the same time count! (think i missed that post in the flurry here...). and yah. at first i wanted to do averaging down, then i realised the counters were all cutting below their 90 day MACD, esp the blues. so held back. now sitting mainly on cash. wait time now. patience....

kilroy! hehe. i thought a techie would be bleeding less than a fundamental player in this market? :P volatility is good for intraday scalping. if market does not allow hold long term, and since i don't have a *bleep* cfd account (regret not opening one! wail), the option left is intraday scalping. what the market dictates, we follow. the best player's not a TA, or FA, or whatever. it's the one who can follow.

make bits and pieces here and there. still can earn. :)

and synnexo, depending on what counter you are holding, can consider cutting some loss here and there? yes, painful, but perhaps the trick is to look overall and long term? i've taken quite a bit of loss in this period myself, but the idea is overall portfolio. can afford to lose some battles to win the war.

cheers all! and stop panicking each other out lah. sheesh.

red1721: bear market to you mean muz hibernate. bull market then come out and play izit? that is the mindset of a trader. a long term investor try to keep himself invested at all times to ride both the bear and bull and eventually emerge the winner over the stock market play. i know it is almost impossible to beat the stock market beast but by adopting different strategy you can increase your odds of beating it. pull all out when bear and put all in when bull is not a good strategy from my observation. wat we have is not economy recession yet cuz companies are still making monies day to day. even my employer is seeing profits rising for past half year. extrapolate that to other companies and industries and the overall economy is not bleak.

i guess emotion plays a big part in this bear market condition driven by foreign funds selling and panic selling by retail investors. please don't flame me. i juz type wat i observe :)
