both starhub and singtel not doing well too.. both lose-lose despite bid.

DJ MARKET TALK: Bank Of America-ML Cuts Starhub To Underperform
[Dow Jones] STOCK CALL: Bank
of America-Merrill Lynch downgrades Starhub (CC3.SG) to Underperform
from Neutral following recent loss of exclusive rights to broadcast
English Premier Leagues matches in Singapore. Cuts target price to
S$1.75 from S$2.22 after lowering FY10-11 earnings estimates by 7%-17%
to reflect customer migration to SingTel (Z74.SG), margin pressure from
initiatives by Starhub to retain clients. Says loss of EPL rights, ESPN
channel to SingTel may lead to 25% fall in dividend per share
post-FY10; "these losses have impaired StarHub's ability to
differentiate itself from competitors by offering mobile and broadband
customers deals around its unrivaled pay TV franchise." Adds Starhub
pay TV customers who leave may also abandon existing mobile, broadband
plans for rivals'. Stock off 1.0% at S$1.93. (FKH)

it broke 192 , now forming double bottom which is super bearish, normally if u see this in dnf chart it a sell for now.

On the issue of divident payout, lets put things in perspective.
Compare the EPS and Divident of the past 4 Quarters:
Period EPS cents Divident cent % of EPS
3Q08 4.62 4.5 97%
4Q08 5.11 4.5 88%
1Q09 4.82 4.5 93%
2Q09 4.55 4.5 99%
Total for past 4Q 19.10 18.0 94%.
From above, Co. div payout is almost 100% of EPS. Unless they sell assets, or there is a windfall in their operational profits, it would be quite a stretch for increased divident payout (special or otherwise). Co. will also be under earning pressure when their loss of the EPL kicks in in 2Q2010. They will also need to allocate funds for the National broadband investment......this may be funded through their cashflow....but, it seems that, unless Co.is able to find fresh source of earnings, it will be a bonus if Co. can maintain their current div payout.
Personnal opinion...caveat emptor.
