Let me tell you a joke to lighten upyour spirits.  Never befriend a lawyer because he will advise you to take up law suits even in thing insignificant.  Never befriend a stock broker because he will recommend you all sorts of shares to buy especially those going downhill.  Hahaha.

Smaller SIM Cards to Slim Down Phones |
||||
![]()
Giesecke & Devrient has developed a smaller SIM card, which may help phone makers like Apple make even slimmer devices.
The company aims for the nano-SIM to become a universal standard by the end of 2011, which would put it in phones by 2012. Giesecke also will make adapters, so the card can fit into larger-sized SIM slots. " A third smaller than the micro-SIM, the nano-SIM enables manufacturers to produce devices that are even thinner and perform even better," said the company in a statement. " This new development from G& D could be finding its way into the first mobile devices as early as next year." Major phone makers haven't yet officially signed on for the nano-SIM card yet, but companies like Apple are expected to be pleased that the option is on the horizon. Apple this spring advocated for smaller SIM cards in its mobile devices, but awaits carrier approval to be able to change that aspect of its phone's physical infrastructure. SIM cards hold phone numbers and personal information, allowing customers to switch physical devices while retaining the same phone number with carriers. Apple in particular has pursued smaller SIM cards in its quest for design perfection. Device and card maker Gemalto was rumored last fall to be making a SIM card Apple would plant directly into its devices, bypassing carriers altogether to let users activate their mobile devices right in Apple stores. Carriers, however, were reportedly not in favor of this plan, since losing physical SIM cards would weaken customer ties with operators. They ulimately control the connection necessary for Apple phones to operate, so they can exercise veto power over this scheme. Carriers may also threaten to drop iPhone subsidies if Apple abandoned physical SIMs altogether, which would raise the price of the smartphones. However, wireless providers recognize that smaller SIM cards are likely to be available in the near future. AT& T CEO Ralph de la Vega said in June that smaller standards were a " no brainer." He didn't specify handset partners, but suggested AT& T is working with Apple to create a thinner chip. In May, France Telecom chief executive Stephane Richard also said that Apple and various carriers reached an agreement to use a smaller card rather than abandoning the cards completely in favor of an integrated chip. Despite carrier concerns, the quest for ever-smaller and thinner devices marches on, and chances are, if smaller SIM card technology comes to fruition, consumers may see a slimmer iPhone as Apple's next release. |
