Star Cruises obtains priority berthing rights
This will allow it to cross-market its offerings with RWS

STAR Cruises - held under Genting Hong Kong - has secured priority berthing rights with Singapore Cruise Centre's international passenger terminal at HarbourFront for 10 years.

The cruise operator said the agreement gave Star Cruises 'commercial and financial incentives' to expand its presence in Singapore, especially as its affiliated company, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), has been pulling in more tourists. RWS - which is close to HarbourFront - is run by Genting Singapore.
'The proximity of RWS to the international passenger terminal and the berthing advantage provided will combine to give Genting Group greater flexibility to cross-market its offerings to cruise and integrated resort customers.'
Star Cruises, Singapore Cruise Centre's first cruise liner customer, has Singapore as its home port for the Asian flagship, SuperStar Virgo. Another cruise ship, the SuperStar Libra, will be home ported in Singapore for seasonal deployment from Nov 6.
Singapore Cruise Centre registered a record 900 ship calls and 1.14 million passenger throughput last year.
Tourism arrivals last month touched a record high for the month of September - translating to the 10th straight month-on- month record - thanks to the Singapore Grand Prix as well as the leisure and entertainment events during the season.
Visitor arrivals stood at 947,000, up 18.4 per cent year-on-year, latest data from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) showed.
Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, China, and India were the top five visitor- generating markets for the month, accounting for 58 per cent of total visitor arrivals, STB said.

iPhone users hit by shock data-roaming charges

Some Apple iPhone users have received hefty bills after foreign trips, despite switching off data-roaming.
Using the internet, email or, indeed, any application that downloads data, can be a very expensive business for smartphone users when they travel abroad. Foreign network providers will charge a huge amount for using their data. As a consequence, iPhone users are urged to disable data-roaming whenever they travel - a simple process designed to stop them incurring such high bills.
But some iPhone users who had turned off data roaming have complained to the moneysavingexpert.com that they have still been hit by bills. In the worst case, reported in The Telegraph, one user claims to have been charged almost £1,500 after a trip to the US.
According to The Telegraph users who have complained to their network have been given refunds. All major networks have been affected.
- Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, said: "Those who have paid when they shouldn't have, should contact their network immediately and demand a refund. In some cases, we're hearing the networks are paying out without too much argument, which could indicate this is a known problem. Let's hope it does not get brushed under the carpet."
As well as the usual precautions, iPhone users are being warned to ensure that their phone software is up to date. Because legislation now caps the amound that can be charged for data-roaming within the EU, the complaints have almost all originated from journey's outside of Europe.

Inverters
The difference between inverter and non inverter is the inverter units can alter their speed in response to cooling demand. Some units have an initial over-speed period where they will run at a slightly higher capacity for a set time to pull down the temperature of a hot room. When they reach the set point temperature they can reduce capacity to maintain that level without cycling as much as a normal unit would. This saves power although it’s arbitrary as it would still take a while to recoup the increased purchase costs.
The inverter unit increases the power usage slightly as it converts the incoming power into a suitable style for the air conditioner although the ability to run at a reduced power level helps to drop the overall usage to below that of a typical non-inverter unit. Most of the advertising claiming 30% lower bills using inverters are based on very carefully set up laboratory scenarios.
In reality, while they may cost less to run than a conventional unit, buying an efficient conventional unit will still be cost effective.

God created a beautiful light-bearing angel who used his position to challenge God's authority. He wanted God's power, not His loving character.
Lucifer defiantly declared, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne...I will ascend above...the clouds, I will be like the Most High" (Isaiah 14:12-14, NKJV).
Notice, Lucifer uses the word "I" four times. Pride gradually developed in his heart. Lucifer came to believe God was arbitrary, unfair and unjust.
He concluded that he could run the heavenly government better than God.

Since God longs for all His creatures to be fully happy and free, He has given them the power of choice. |
