Ya, I like baby steps charts too. They are far safer than those that spike up and down. Can mati from heart attack if one is weak :)

Peace

It may rest a while longer before the next rising wave.

Dips make a beautiful chart!

Nikkei is up now as well.

Let's see STI gap up a little today!

Last night's +68pts gain of the Dow will certainly boost the underlying strength of the STI... :)

*U.S. Retailers' March Sales Gain on Easter, Clothing

*Stocks gained slightly, with Research in Motion's outlook and higher oil prices balancing against stronger-than-expected retail-sales results for March.

Yes, it is.  Let's hope to see Nikkei doing the same tomorrow at 8am.  Called it right on the retracement of STI at 3450 with an 80% unloading of holdings.  :)

Inflation 2.4, factory orders weak, 60% of ard 1100 polled felt recession next year, housing weakness n ARM are concerns, unemployment claims unexpectedly rise, citi laying off 17,000 (the latter two are in the news AFTER last week's 4.4% unemployment rate against forecasted 4.6%....is this the prelude to increase of unemployment rate in near future?) and retailer stores expect fall in retail sales in april, oil prices up after decline (when 15 sailors released by iran)....all these are against dow going up, hopefully dow wud not end in the red 2morrow morning. Consumers' sentiments (if decline 2morrow night) is not unexpected. Hopefully PPI's figures favorable this 13, friday...if figures unfavorable, dow wud most likely end in the red on this 14 saturday morning...then red sea on monday for hsi, nikkei, sti, etc.

For those who stress the technicals, the Dow chart is still quite re-assuring, though... :)

US Stocks at a Glance

Stocks dip ahead of Fed meeting minutes

NEW YORK - Stocks fell moderately Wednesday as investors awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve's last meeting to offer insight into where interest rates might be headed.

Investors seemed unimpressed by a plan from Citigroup Inc., the nation's largest financial institution, in which it would eliminate about 17,000 jobs to reduce costs and improve profits.

Also, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke is scheduled to speak Wednesday afternoon on discipline and regulation. He is also expected to touch on the mortgage
industry, which is battling weakness in the subprime mortgage lending market.

In the first hour of trading, the Dow Jones industrials fell 20.64, or 0.16 percent, to 12,553.21.

Broader stock indicators also fell. The Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 2.51, or 0.17 percent, to 1,445.88, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 6.35, or 0.26 percent, to 2,471.26.

Bonds showed little movement. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note remained flat at 4.72 percent from late Tuesday. The dollar was mixed against other major currencies, while gold prices fell.

In corporate news, Citigroup's plan to cut about 5 percent of its 327,000-member work force didn't seem to go far enough for some investors. Citigroup fell 40 cents to $52.

The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 2.03, or 0.25 percent, to 812.48.

In afternoon trading, Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.31 percent, Germany's DAX index rose 0.42 percent, and France's CAC-40 rose 0.29 percent.

News at 12.30am:

IMF warns that financial market risks have increased.

Jaime Caruana, director of the IMF's monetary and capital markets department, said overall economic risks had diminished worldwide, but recent market corrections were a reminder that risks exist and things could turn for the worse quickly.

Victorian...

I agree with you...

It seems like the Dow has only upward to go, after shaking out the mass players...

Similarly, it seems the STI is really heading for 4000 .

(Why limit one's possibilities to the 3000's?)

Anyway, the Dow has shown itself to be reassuringly bullish...
