We are in the same boat, Forrest! I know nuts about TA and just trade on gut feeling, predicting market sentiments and early spotting of undervalued shares. So far so good .... :)

hi cashiertan,

Thanks for high regards. actually, i know nothing about TA! and very little about FA.

i'm a GFA actually..(gut-feel artist), if there is such a thing. haha :)

But Singaporegal is still my idol!!!! anybody, all her fans here, lets start a thread and hazard a guess how Mystery girl looks like, OK?

Hi Taybc1071 ... it's the ratio of 52-week high I use of CSM in both SGX and Nasdaq .... Example to see today's CSM close price of 1.40:

9.00 (last Friday's close price) = 11.85

'xxxx' value (SGX close price today) = 1.87

Which is 9.00 x 1.87 / 11.85 = 1.42

(But I always minus 2 cents for compensation from past calculations)

Please take note that this is only a guide for reference only. This guidance does swing from Nasdaq to SGX or from SGX to Nasdaq! So a green close in Nasdaq doesn't always mean a green close in SGX the next day! Trade with care ya ....

Semiconductor stocks were higher on laggard-buying on the view that their valuations are still cheap compared to other regional technology plays, dealers said.

"People see them as laggards relative to their peers in the region," BNP Paribas analyst Sze Ho Ng said. But he noted that in the case of Chartered Semiconductor and STATS ChipPAC, "they are cheap for (different) reasons." Ng said he rates both firms with a "hold" given the expectations that fourth-quarter earnings will remain pressured by inventory adjustments by customers, with the catalyst of chip demand recovery likely in the second quarter of next year at the earliest.

"For Chartered, I'm still not comfortable with its balance sheet position , it is still not generating cash... and for STATS, I think the company so far has not seen the synergy promised by the merger (with ChipPAC)," Ng said.

agree with singgal abt this counter, this counter behave like a DOW predictor. It dip even before DOW dip on Friday may consolidate for some time before climbing up again.

Yup, with the dip in USD yesterday (which caused Dow to end RED too like Nikkei) .... all US export counters will be affected.

But, somehow I guess that yesterday's CSM dip of 2 cents was already the USD factor. A GREEN monday for CSM surely, if I am right.

Chartered's trend is becoming slightly uncertain again. Be cautious. People who want to buy in should wait a few days for trend to confirm.

Hi Taybc1071 .... check the below site for CSM's trading in Nasdaq:

http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/quotes.asp?symb=CHRT

--------------------

The huge rise last nite should be the spill-over of a $5.5b offer for a Taiwanese chip maker below:

"Taiwanese Advanced Semiconductor jumped 15% after it said it may get a takeover bid that would value the company at $5.5 billion.
The chip services provider said it has received an indication of interest from investors led by The Carlyle Group and including its chairman and chief executive, Jason Chang. Chang controls 18.4% of the stock. See full story.
The advance in Advanced Semi's stock helped the Taiwan ADR Index to a higher close, up 3%. United Microelectronics also jumped, by 7.8%, and Siliconware Precision Industries gained 4.4%. End of Story "

am in a semicon mnc, and i never really believe much in what the analysts in their reports say. the cycles are getting much shorter now & we do feel it. v volatile nowadays. one qtr super good, the other qtr bad, v hard to predict
