Yeah I know what you mean. Maybe you can start by attending a trading course or seminar. That was how I got started.

CFD means contracts for difference. It is a form of derivative, so you are not buying a share directly, but you are buying the derivative. Other forms of derivatives are options and warrants.
CFD allow you to long or short for as long as you want, but there is a interest charged for holding a certain number of CFDs per day. The interest is usually quite small, but still significant if you hold the shares for a long period of time.
