Is Biosensors a good buy?

Dont worry about him...CONCENTRATE on the fact that BIOSENSORS REQUESTS FOR TRADING HALT!!  Lets hope for good news ok everyone.

Boston Scientific's Profit Rises on Costs, Heart Device Sales

world's biggest maker of drug-coated stents, said profit more
than doubled on lower costs and increased sales of
defibrillators and other heart devices.
    First-quarter net income rose to $322 million, or 21 cents
a share, from $120 million, or 8 cents, a year earlier when
Boston Scientific had acquisition costs, the Natick,
Massachusetts-based company said today in a statement on PR
Newswire.

AK opine that, with the current BBs record cards didn't stir shit on the market, its a good sign for all counters to unfold their sleeves leow.

 

I hope BIG will at least present 6 months data in EuroPCR 2008. 6 months data can more or less gauge how the 9 months results will be like. The results shouldn't be very far off.

 

Just browsed thru the EuroPcr conference to be held from 13th May - 16th May 08 - Looks like there is no mention of the Leaders Trial results.

Although BIG had CE Mark on 17/01/08, they mentioned that they still need to get "clearance" as a paperwork formality in each and every country. Some countries have very quick clearance duration of 1 month, most countries can get clearance within 3 months, some about 6 months and i recall one particular country take about 1 freaking year!!! (duno if that country's civil service got no computer systemt or what). Quite difficult to gauge the sales projections accurately now because Biomatrix official launch date was 01/04/08. Those 3,000 biomatrix used after CE approval could be used on patients' special request because no clearance was obtained yet for many countries until 01/04/2008. Biomatrix's many smaller scale clinical trials are very impressive so far but still lack the weight of large scale trial like LEADERS to fully convince doctors that this stent is the best. I believe sales can be accelerated at an even faster pace with the positive results of LEADERS (Biomtrix VS Cypher) involving 1,700 patients.

As for LEADERS trial, it is very similar to Terumo's NOBORI CORE RCT involving 107 patients (54:53) on NOBORI (Biomatrix) VS JNJ's Cypher. From this very small trial, i gather that Biomatrix is slightly more superior than Cypher in terms of late-loss and MACE rate. I believe LEADERS trial should show similar results too (Biomatrix superiority over Cypher).

I also feel it is important that BIG has to perform well in terms of post CE sales over the next couple of quarters to accelerate takeover negotiations when they do come again. BIG has to deliver some very hard punches at other stent rivals to stunt them, make them feel the pain in loss of market share and not look down on BIG as a small and insignificant DES player. If Biomatrix don't sell well, BIG is of little threat at the moment (or the near future), the rivals may take their own sweet time for takeover talks. The first few punches that BIG is throwing is very important and set the tone on how the DES rivals (also potential takeover offerers) will be looking at BIG. BIG has to strike them very hard, fast and furious. Meanwhile, sales beyond expectations will also help to increase BIG's share price. Not so much about the meagre profits from sales of Biomatrix on the first 2 quarters after launching but the potential and market acceptance rate of Biomatrix (first commercialised biodegradable polymer DES).  

 

just studied this counter TA briefly, there is no signal from my system to pick this counter (EOD data) maybe above 75c i will consider to buy.

Although, Credit Suissze said in their report that BIG will only release the Leaders trial results on Oct 08, I had heard mentioned in their last audio conference, when they announced the JMSW takeover or the CE mark ,that they will be announcing the Leaders trial results in May 08. (Kindly check it yourself by listening to the conf).

Also, in their last announcement, they mentioned that more than 3,000 patients have used the Biomatrix stent since the CE mark approval on Jan 18. That is, in a little over 2 mths, their sales would be approx 3,000 x1.5x US$2,000 = US$9m.

 If you annualised it over 12 mths, it works out to US$45m. And this revenue is BEFORE the official launch.

I am assuming that each patient gets an average of 1.5 stents and each stent cost US$2,000.

Let us see what is the actual revenue when they announced their q408 results next month.
