Hi luvbugz,

I think it might be an upward trend. 60% chance of that happening, I reckon...

Hi chipchip66,

Yeah, I'm eye on Bio-diesel like Wilmar at the moment..
but still not too sure if I wanna dive in now due to lack of knowledge in this field... and it involve policy risk where most of the plant is in Indonesia.

Looking at YongJiu's post, I think it is time SPC should invest in alternative energy resources like buying into companies dealing in Bio-diesl or something. Oil exploration is tedious work and may not guarantee black gold.

SINGAPORE (XFN-ASIA) - Singapore Petroleum Co Ltd (SPC) said it will abandon exploration activities at the Wortel-2 appraisal well, part of the Sampang production sharing contract in Indonesia, after the drill stem test did not recover significant hydrocarbons.

SPC holds a 36 pct stake in the oil discovery contract, which it is jointly exploring with partners Santos Ltd, Cue Energy and PT Petrogras.

"There are plans for further appraisal drilling, including a third well, Wortel-3 appraisal well, to determine the full potential of the Wortel gas discovery, subject to partners' and governmental approval and rig availability," the company said in a statement.

The United States general elections of 2006 will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006.

So we should see oil price staying low to make peoples happy happy right =)

SPC is rather closely correlated to oil price. When oil price is up, SPC ever exceeds $5. When oil price is down, SPC goes south too...

Looks to me like still trending in a downtrend price channel. Unless it can cross $4.85 convincingly, otherwise it may move towards $4.50 again.

Read this in one of the CNN site.

Quote:

Oil prices may back off from current highs, but the era of cheap energy is over. Oil sold for less than $20 a barrel for 11 of the 15 years from 1986 to 2000. Most economists today would breathe a sigh of relief if the price settled around $45. So oil and gas companies will likely enjoy a favorable market over the next 20 or 30 years.

You can buy at any price if you are aiming for long term investment. I use the cost averaging method and so far it works well for me with an average of 9% returns.
