Hohokit... :)

hahaha... you are treating me like a consultant... I am only a hobbyist at best, if you like ... :)

The moon's phases has been known to frequently trigger market turns.

My belief (based on some past occurrences) is that if the market has been weak just before the
phase starts, then it is likely to rise. The reverse can also be true.

So you see, it is not a matter of it being a "bearish moon phase" or "bullish moon phase". Rather, it is just  a trigger point. Smiley

Pikachu...

I had always thought that terms like "crash" is only applicable to situations where there is widespread panic selling?

And calling a market "wriggle" a "crash" is a bit premature and alarmist to many rookies too. Smiley

Think that's likely esp since there's heavy duty economic data coming out from US this week. Hmm ... time to catch some of our favourite stocks on the cheap? ;)

I think STI will fall tommorow by at least 50 points because the Dow crashed more than 1% last Friday.

What do you all think?

Business Times 23 June, 2007 - It May Not Pay To Follow The Crowd.
A small investor who does his own research can outdo the big boys

Here's another reason why a retail investor who has done research can significantly outperform the big funds, and why following the the crowd will not yield supernormal returns for you.

There are a lot more stocks in the market than there are analysts. It is impossible to cover all the stocks listed on the market. So broking firms and analysts have no other options but to pick and choose the stocks to cover.

And since analysts in the broking forms are paid for by the commissions generated by their forms, it makes sense that they will concentrate their efforts on companies with big market capitalisations which are highly liquid. These counters wil generate the bulk of the trading commissions for the broking firms. So, in other words, stocks which are hardly traded also tend to be the ones neglected by stock analysts.

In contrast, a thinly traded stock may remain undervalued for some time before the market wakes up to its potential. Once that happens, there will be increased trading in the counter, which will lead to analysts initiating coverage of it, which in turn, may generate even more interest from investors.

Hi Galileo, the recent news would have been factored into present prices. But the full value of the contracts to be awarded hasn't yet and would come in time via better cashflow and profitability when the contract earnings are recognised. While the construction stocks in my portfolio are for long-term investment purposes, i am *secretly* hoping that they cheong too. Maybe i can realise some profits and then re-accumulate again. :)

Yes... the little wrigglings of the index is a fixed occurrence....

Otherwise, we will just see only smooth inclined planes...  Smiley

A little correction today is good for the health of the market. Nothing to worry!

Synapse:  I'm just trying to learn, but per the Edge the other week on what socks have IR bidding potenial do you not think this is already factored into their prices already ?

I agree with you the STI cannot fly everyday it needs to cool off & squeeze out the contras.

Good that STI to close down today. If not there'd be too much divergence with the Dow. Next week will see some heavy economic data coming out from US. Wonder if construction stocks will cheong next week as additional IR contracts would be announced by end of the month.

Hi cyjjerry, think my prev post may have been mis-read. This is what i meant: STI only has to gain about 400 pts (actually ~350 pts) to reach 4000 pts, but may fall by 900 pts to 2700 pts. With a ratio of 400 : 900, IMO the "risk premium" (dunno if this is the right  term) is a little high. As such, i think a short trading term posture is useful as it caters for an emergency exit just in case.

erm...Synapse...did you type wrongly downside risk is 2700?? or u meant 3700? which means STI hitting only up to 3700 lar?

It'd be good to maintain a trading posture for non-core stocks. If analyst reports are to be believed, the upside potential for STI is 4000 but downside risk is 2700. At the current level of 3600+, the risk premium is not very attractive. Stay nimble my friends.
