zhuge_liang Posted: 28-Jun-2007
Rose on talks that they may spin off their Norwegian Cruises unit (NCL).

hikitty, from my remiser. His daily market close commentary.

"Starcruises was actively traded with news that the owner may hive off the
cruise business and take it private. It is expected to have more upside for
this counter. It gained 4c at .395. Genting should also benefit from any
gains in Starcruises."

(not in inducement to buy)

As of 3am today:

Bloomberg ->

*U.S. Stocks Advance After Fed Says Economy to Keep Growing  U.S. stocks gained for a second day after the Federal Reserve said the economy will probably keep growing and analysts upgraded Intel Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. Monsanto Co., the world's biggest seed producer, gained after earnings beat analyst estimates.

Inflation gauges ``have improved modestly in recent months,'' policy makers said after holding the benchmark overnight-lending rate at 5.25 percent for an eighth consecutive meeting. ``The economy seems likely to continue to expand.''

*Fed Keeps Rate at 5.25%, Retains Focus on InflationThe Federal Reserve kept the benchmark U.S. interest rate at 5.25 percent and stressed that inflation is the greatest risk facing the economy.

``Readings on core inflation have improved modestly in recent months,'' the Federal Open Market Committee said today after a two-day meeting in Washington. ``However, a sustained moderation in inflation pressures has yet to be convincingly demonstrated.''

Officials have resisted calls for rate increases and cuts in the past year, helping the economy weather a housing slump and giving inflation a chance to recede of its own accord. While price gains have slowed, policy makers still see dangers.

``The committee's predominant policy concern remains the risk that inflation will fail to moderate as expected,'' the Fed said. Turning to growth prospects, the Fed said the economy is ``likely to continue to expand at a moderate pace over coming quarters.''

WB and JL are too remote for my simple mind, which deals only with simple down-to-earth stuff...

Such as protection of whatever capital we have...

For a change of taste, think I'll drink saki now... Smiley

I guess the 4 "gurus" who particpated in the pull-out talk are just penny wise compared to WB, the 2nd richest man at the moment. To WB, no one should fear the bears or a market crash, if one has bought the right stuff. That's another contrarian view for u?

No, you didn't get the point... Bull or bear is not the point...

The point is the "call to pull-out" is already out,

And so the thought will stick at the back of the minds fund managers...

This will affect sentiment very much.  And that is the point.

Now for a nice cuppa toddi ! ....Smiley

Contrarian ?

It's just a matter of perception.

If u are a bull then u view bear as contrarian.

If u are a bear then u view bull as contrarian.

After that BT contarian "pull out" report,

cautious sentiment will prevail among a substantial crowd...

And 'bull with oomph' will need time to build up again ...

But in the meantime, the substantial crowd will want to sell at a good price!!!  Smiley
