Biosensors International – Having spent the past three months understanding Biosensors International and the stent market, Biosensors' new chief executive and president Michael Kleine is ready to embark on plans to restructure the group and accelerate growth. He has spelt out four goals for the next few years - making Biosensors the No 1 player in Asia, winning a 10 per cent market share in Europe, having four new products in the R&D pipeline and making clinical programmes more efficient. The key to the company's Asian ambitions is China, where it is eyeing a 30 per cent market share in three years. Biosensors is in the process of gaining full control of Chinese stent maker JW Medical Systems (JWMS), which markets one of the top-selling drug-eluting stents (DES) in China. Biosensors is also aiming for registration of its flagship Biomatrix DES in China within 12-18 months. In Europe, where it recently obtained the CE mark for BioMatrix, Mr Kleine sees a need for more aggressive sales and marketing. In the past three months, the firm has hired about 20 new sales people in Europe, and will make further investments in direct sales infrastructure over the next two years. 'These people all have key physician relationships that allow us to get in the door, show our clinical data, show our product, and then hopefully grow the business that way,' said Mr Kleine. Sales will be centred on BioMatrix, as Biosensors phases out the Axxion stent. In the meantime, the company is looking at developing next-generation products and a polymer-free DES using different variations of drugs and polymer types.

The LEADERS trial results should be out in Aug 2008. This was hinted by the CEO on 26th May FY end briefing. As mentioned by him ...should be the 6-month results.
Also, Stephan Windecker who gave the talk "Biodegradable polylactide / Biolimus A9 technology: what have we learned from 6000 patients?" in the recent EuroPCR also hinted that this should be out at ESC Congress, 30th Aug 2008.
Maybe, the 12-month results timing would be for EuroPCR next near..?

Thank you Bengster and P-A-E for the reply, your expertise is greatly appreciated. The more information and knowledge that we share on this company, the better for us all to make informed decisions. It appears that the patent is very broad and should ensure revenue long into the future.
Bengster, when do you think that the Leaders trial results be announced? Will this be 9 month data? What are the primary endpoints of the trial?
If it is 9 month data, then I would think that it would be difficult for Biomatrix to show any statistical superiority in key endpoints over Cypher in such a short time. I think that the real advantage of the Biomatrix stent and the PLA polymer is in the possible reduction of LST and VLST and this will take a few years to uncover. Of course, the study is probably insufficiently powered to show any statistical superiority in this regard but the trends will be interesting to see. What are your thoughts?
Fresh from getting the CE mark approval for its flagship Biomatrix product, Biosensors is aiming to be the top player in Asia in the drug eluting stent (DES) market. The heart stent manufacturer said this yesterday at its financial results briefing.
On the group's regional ambition, CEO and president Michael Kleine said: 'As long as we bring in the right products, I definitely think we can achieve that. For us to be successful and have that No 1 market share position in Asia, with China being the main bulk of that, we have to be in the 30% range in market share in China, in 3 years.'
Much of the initial sales in China will come from the Excel DES, launched in early '06. As for its Biomatrix DES, the group is aiming to gain registration in China over the next 12-18 months.
For the full year to March 31, net loss was US$30 million, down from the loss of US$36.3 million for the preceding year, while total revenue climbed 29% to US$44.3 million. Of that, interventional cardiology products accounted for US$27.1 million in revenue. This included US$1.7 million in pre-launch sales from Biomatrix, which obtained the green light in January for marketing in Europe. Critical care products contributed US$11.6 million, while the rest of US$5.6 million came from licensing fees.
Yes, agree that this is a great strategy, i also apply it to Singtel many times and never fail to make $$. However, the different here is that ST is a blue chip with good divds and great fundamental, thus, I dun mind left holding it even for v. long term. Just my view.

i think you are new member.. yes, it works for biosensor, up to date, it has been in this manner for 8 times...
that's why I come out with 2 ways stratergy....
50% of your holding at 0.69 for long term
50% of your holding at 0.69 ( is for you to play .... sell at 0.8, or 0.9, or 1.0, then, when it drops back to 0.69, buy again... ) ...
it works perfectly...... i said that many times, and i will "remind" you guys again , when the time come, and today is the day for me to remind u guys to BUY again !!!!! go and see the chart yourself and u know what i am talking about..
the next support point is at 0.64, then, 0.60... then, next would be nightmare which never happen before... so.... i cannot tell u the answer.
