Five stocks gained for each that fell on the 30-member gauge. Shares on the measure trade at an average 15.7 times estimated earnings, compared with about 17.4 times at the beginning of the year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The following shares were among the most active in the market.    Palm-oil producers: Nomura Holdings Inc. raised its view on crude-palm-oil stocks to “bullish” after increasing its price forecasts for the commodity by as much as 20%, the brokerage said in a note to clients.   Golden Agri-Resources (GGR SP), which the brokerage raised to “buy” from “reduce,” gained 1.5% to 68 cents. Indofood Agri Resources (IFAR SP), which was raised to “buy” from “neutral,” rose 0.8% to $2.59.   Keppel Land KPLD SP), the real-estate company controlled by Keppel Corp. (KEP SP), gained 2% to $4.55. The company said it bought residential sites in Chengdu, China, for 1.8 billion yuan ($353 million).   SembCorp Marine (SMM SP), the world’s second-biggest builder of oil rigs, advanced 2.2% to $4.60. CIMB Group Holdings Bhd raised its rating on the stock to “outperform” from “neutral.”   STX Pan Ocean Co. (STX SP), South Korea’s biggest bulk carrier, rose 3.8% to $14.88. The company said it expects about US$5 billion ($6.5 billion)of revenue from a 25-year contract received from Fibria Celulose SA of Brazil.

Share this  Digg  Del.icio.us  StumbleUpon  Netscape  Yahoo  Technorati  Googlize this  Facebook Export PDF Print E-mail Nomura has cut its rating on commodities firm Olam International <OLAM.SI> to “neutral” from “buy”, citing rich valuations.  But the brokerage said it maintained its target price of $3.40, which it will review should Olam and Louis Dreyfus announce a merger deal.        STATEMENT:  Nomura said that since Olam’s 2010 financial year results in August, it has outperformed the broader Straits Times Index and its peers Wilmar International <WLIL.SI> and Noble Group <NOBG.SI>.    The brokerage said that while the first leg of the run was led by Olam’s strong results, which saw core earnings grow by 47%, the second leg has been fuelled by speculation over a possible merger between Olam and French commodities group Louis Dreyfus.    Nomura said current valuations for Olam, a 21 times price-earnings ratio for the firm’s 2011 calendar year, seem rich and the stock could trade range-bound pending any announcement regarding the merger.    “Although it may be too early to comment on whether the deal will actually happen, if it does, we think it would be positive for both as there may be scope for product, geographical and channel synergies,” Nomura said in a report.    At 0204 GMT, Olam shares were down 0.6% at $3.30 on a volume of 708,000 shares.

These are my choice picks. You have to do your due diligence and pick out the gems from these counters. Not all of them will chiong when near their announcement date unless there is good expectation of good 3rd quarter earnings.

Unfortunately no. I was able to back track previous posts only today but I know its quite late to enter already since it is more likely that Kepland's current price already reflects the good 3rd quarter earnings.
