Eitzen opts for Jotun HPS for two chemical tankers



eitzen tankerSEPTEMBER 4, 2013 â?? Eitzen Chemical A/S (OSE:ECHEM), has decided to implement Jotun's Hull Performance Solutions (HPS) on two of its largest chemical carriers. The first vessel, Siteam Discoverer, applied SeaQuantum X200 to the hull at the COSCO Dalian Shipyard in China in May, while the next vessel will dock in October later this year.

" Through several years of measuring our vessel's performance, we recognize that the correct choice of antifouling is one of the low hanging fruits when it comes to increasing our vessel's energy efficiency" , says Rasmus Kjaer, General Manager Technical for Siteam Discoverer at Eitzen Chemical.

" Eitzen Chemical is aware of its environmental responsibility and we strive to comply with and maintain high standards in order to reduce the environmental impact from our operations," says Mr. Kjaer. " We are therefore excited to see the first hull performance measurements on the two vessels and the effect the coating has had on their fuel consumption, emission and operating efficiency."

Jotun launched its ground breaking Hull Performance Solution (HPS) in 2011. It consists of a top of the range antifouling (SeaQuantum X200), a reliable and transparent method for measuring the impact of the antifouling on vessel energy efficiency as well as a no-cure-no-pay business model.

Jotun's Hull Performance Solution with its SeaQuantum X200 antifouling has been designed to maximize vessels' hull performance and thus optimize their energy efficiency. The technology gives both an optimized initial smoothness and long term performance, enabling shipping companies to reduce their fuel consumption and emission of green-house gases. Jotun says that compared to market average antifouling, SeaQuantum X200 is expected to deliver an improvement in propulsion efficiency of 15% on a ship that maintains its speed over 60 months.

COSCO inks Vroon PSVs



With the order of two additional platform-supply vessels (PSV) at COSCO Guangdong Shipyard now confirmed, Vroon currently has ten PSVs under construction in China:

    ? four PSVs with 850 m2 deck space and 4,200 DWT, PX121-type, to be built in Guangdong
    ? six PSVs with 710 m2 deck space and 3,980 DWT, KCM design, which will be built at Fujian Southeast Shipyard.

These vessels represent an important step in further enhancing the services we provide to our offshore clients. All ten PSVs are scheduled for delivery during 2015 and will be managed by Vroon Offshore Services.

COSCO Plans Multi-Million EUR Expansion of Its Piraeus Port Operations

Chinaâ??s largest bulk shipper COSCO Holdings Co Ltd has agreed a multi-million euros expansion of its container operations at Greeceâ??s biggest port Piraeus, easing the way for the portâ??s privatisation.

Under a deal announced by Greek officials on Monday, COSCO will be excused paying fees to OLP in return for making the investment, removing a question mark over growth at the port and taking the state a step closer to selling its 74 percent stake.

In turn this could add impetus to Greeceâ??s ailing sell-off programme, which has been hampered by the wariness of international investors to buy assets in the recession-hit country but which remains vital if Greece is to keep receiving bailout funds and debt relief from its international lenders.

â??This agreement is as valuable as the initial one which brought the Chinese company to Greece,â?? shipping minister Miltiades Varvitsiotis told newspaper Naftemporiki.

COSCO took over management of OLPâ??s container port in 2008.

Under the terms of the agreement, COSCO will spend 230 million euros (194 million pounds) to increase Piraeusâ??s cargo handling capacity by two thirds over the next seven years to an annual 6.2 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

In exchange, the deal suspends the fixed guaranteed fees COSCO was contractually obliged to pay to OLP, until Greeceâ??s gross domestic product (GDP) returns to its pre-crisis level of 2008, â??plus 2 percent each yearâ??.

According to Greek GDP forecasts, this concession effectively suspends COSCOâ??s payments until after 2020, saving the Chinese company at least 250 million euros.

The deal will be submitted to the two companiesâ?? boards for final approval.

Piraeus, one of Europeâ??s busiest tourism ports handling about 20 million passengers a year mainly to and from the Greek islands, aspires to boost its cargo trade and become a gateway for Chinese trade into the region.

Its container port handled a total of 625,914 TEUs of cargo last year, up 28 percent on 2011 but still 6 percent below its 2009 level reflecting the damage to Greek trade from the economic crisis.

OLP has a stock market value of 421 million euros. Greece hopes to attract private investors to run the company, either through a direct share sale or a concession. COSCO is seen as a possible contender in the sale.

Under Greeceâ??s privatisation plans, its second-biggest port at Thessaloniki and other regional ports are also up for grabs.

COSCO Delivers Offshore Duo to BAM-Clough

The first SEA-1250 with tubular legs, the Jack-Up â??IB-914â?? and Transport Barge â??IB-924â?? both departed China mid August setting sail on their maiden voyages.

The new built process of this SEA-1250 was concluded in less than a yearâ??s time, a record time for this newly developed design. This is the third GustoMSC SEA-1250 Jack-Up built and the first design with tubular legs. The â??IB-914â?? is a larger unit than the Pauline and a smaller version of the JBâ??s 114 & 115, a perfectly sized Jack-Up for civil construction works.

The Jack-Up has a 300-ton capacity crane and will be capable of operating in 30 meters of water depth. Built in a shorter time period, the â??IB-924â?? transport barge is dedicated for transporting the â??IB-914â?? and will also function as a support barge during the execution of the civil projects. Both units will be deployed in Australia on BAM Cloughâ??s near shore civil construction projects, where their older sister (1982) the â??IB-909â?? has been operating for quite some time.
