Hi iPunter, you are right about the newbie thingy. As I am a newbie, I know what you mean by collecting all the fundamentals and then trade based on information.
What analysis (TA/FA/trend analysis/ position analysis) are you using then?
I think there is no one good analysis in this world.
Otherwise, we will not see you betting it will drop while Gorgeous and Starlene betting it will shoot up.
And again, I admit I am a newbie.
Newbies usually like to gather a lot of 'fundamental" information from everywhere.
That is the problem. Newbies must beware in the end, stocks is all betting...

Sorry but i think if one company is desperate for cash, there is many ways of raising fund (notes/ rights issue) and not necessarily got to sell itself off. Of course, this is on the assumption that it will not go bankrupt in a few days time where in such situation, interest is sky high.
My newbie opinions.
It was STX Group that was desperate for cash. The other way of looking at it is that Fincantieri got a real bargain!

The new boss had offered 1.22 for the shares... Generous or not?... lol...
No need to " Kan Chiong " ! FY 2013 dividend will only be declared 1 year later {ie end Feb 2014}
May be the new boss is more generous !!!?

In stocks, there's no need for any reason for it to drop...
Stocks can just drop like sheet when the time is ripe...

Those days may be over for good...
New boss may be very " giam siap" (stingy)... maybe no dividend at all ...
As a result, many may be fed up and just dump it... just a possibility...
I cannot help the dividend policy on STX OSV website.
But I found it on analysis report.
FY 2011: dividend yield more than 50%.
Dividend policy:  more than 30%

No one can know the trend, let alone confirm a trend... lol...
