In my opinion, Gokonwei already control UIC now, there is no additional benefit unless he want to take UIC private, but with credit hard to come by, keeping cash would be the best option to look for good investment at cheap cost.
Shplayer, thats interesting, I've learnt something new again
. I'm thinking, if Gokonwei were to accumulate the 1% within 6months, he would hold about 36% of shares. Morgan Stanley (MS) controls about 12%. At this low price well below NAV, it would then be advantageous for him to try another attempt at GO because he need only to convince MS directly. Thats a total of 48% combined vote. But of course need to convince another 3% to get a 51% vote. Alternatively, he could snap up to 39% and convincing MS would be enough.
Investing in shares is rather interesting as it helps me to think up of scenerios and observe the strategies of businessmen. Can learn quite a bit of stuff besides trying to make profit myself

Oh yes, also provided he does not buy >1% more of the issued capital in any 6 mths periods, otherwise it will trigger off another GO before the 50% threshold.

Can someone please enlighten me on the issue of general offer (GO)? I read today's Straits Times that back in 2005, Gokonwei made an unsuccessful bid for UIC after trigerring the mandatory GO when he held 30% (30% is mandatory GO) of the shares.
My question is: Since it was unsuccessful back then as his offer was too low for the shareholders, does he now have to accumulate close to 50% so that he can majority votes? OR is there another mandatory GO after the 30% threshold? His current interest is 34.9%.

hm yea. this baby's on my hit list too. not done downtrending yet; rather surprising since most of the blues have found their bottoms and are pinging off for now.
next support is abt 2.24. watch for bottoming.
Watch it! Thisone just broke through a major support...
and has not crossed back up yet (very likely to go down some more!)...
It keeps falling. Looks quite attractive. Anybody know if its good to buy now or wait for more dips?
