this stock up due to Takeover article mention in The Edge.
but company announced today  that the buy-out inquiries are routine and not to
read too much into it.

so if you want to gamble that the management is playing it down, you might want to
roll the dice.

im not vested, just watching the action as I feel management wont do anything immediately.

It said it expects to benefit as China and India improve lab safety in order to combat bird flu.

Techcomp designs and makes spectrophotometers and chromatographs -- instruments used to analyse individual components in chemicals.

The firm expects to roll out at least four to five new devices this year, including a biological safety cabinet with built-in gloves that labtechnicians can use to manipulate dangerous viruses.

CEO Richard Lo told Reuters that Asia's experience with contagious diseases such as SARS and bird flu are set to become a major growth driver for the firm.

"Asian countries are putting in more resources in lab safety," Lo told Reuters in a telephone interview on Thursday.

Lo, who has a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, said the firm experienced exceptionally strong demand for its products in 2003, when the SARS crisis struck.

Technical instruments newsletter Instrument Business Outlook said in July 2006 that industry demand in the Asia-Pacific region, especially from China and India, had reached exceptionally high levels and seemed set to remain high.

Lo, who together with his wife owns 55% of the firm, said Techcomp has received numerous buy-out offers in the past few years but does not want to be taken over.

Not that Techcomp would be hard to swallow. With a market capitalisation of just US$23.4 million, Techcomp is small compared to its rival, Landwind Medical, which is valued at US$109 million, and puny compared to sector giants such as Medtronic. Landwind itself received a takeover bid in January from a consortium consisting of a Citigroup fund and Landwind's senior management.

Foo Sze Ming, an analyst with NRA, has a "buy" recommendation on the stock with a price target of $0.43. Thursday's closing price of $0.315 is still well below the share's 2004 IPO price of $0.40.
The relatively illiquid share trades at about 5.4x historical earnings, way below the average 25x for the 132 companies in the FTSE medical equipment and supplies sector in Asia Pacific, Reuters data showed.

It expects annual revenue growth of 20 to 25% over the next few years, underpinned by growing demand in China and India. the company designs and makes products that analyse chemical components.

"We can maintain 20 to 25% top-line growth for the next 3 to 5 years," CEO Richard Lo told Reuters in an interview on Thursday.

Lo declined to provide a profit forecast, but said that NRA's 2007 earnings forecast of US$5.5 million -- which would represent a 26% increase from 2006 -- is "a good calculation". Net profit in 2006 reached US$4.35 million, 18% higher than in 2005.

Techcomp, which earns 40% of its revenue from Hitachi  in China, said last June that it had won a contract from U.S.-based laboratory instruments manufacturer Nuaire to make biological safety cabinets. Lo said the financial impact of the new contract will not be very significant in 2007, as the product must first undergo testing and certification.

"In the long run, it'll be a major growth driver for us -- Asian countries are putting in more resources in lab safety," he said.

Techcomp expects to roll out at least 4 to 5 new devices this year, including the biological safety cabinet, which protects laboratory workers from contagious diseases such as bird flu.
