Hedge funds borrow too much from Japan and Japan increase interest rate and cause massive sell down. S'pore alone, increase in development charge will not cause the bubble to burst. Everyone watchout n becareful. Bless all.

I believe today sell-off is over reacted as it's a known fact that the market is overheated and everyone just wanted to get out at the earliest possible moment when any sign of steep fall appears without really know the reason. Especially the punters have no access to first hand news on the internet or radio, suddenly the screen changed colour from green to red at about 2.30pm. Tell me who is not panicky!

My humble two cents worth:-

on the last two posts, only tomorrow we'll know for sure if its local, but I think so many here where caught out, there must be more red tomorrow, as contra & panic sets in with anyone who picked up stocks this morning.

I cannot belive this was institutional instigated, its too across the board, everyone is expecting a correction & the 70% tax tipped the scales I think, this must hit property stocks, but construction & others hopefully will rebound, contracts in hand will go ahead..

I bought at Banjoo at 0.285.

Only Singapore fall by 1.8%, Malaysia by 0.6,Japan fall by 1.1%, Hong Kong by 0.94%, Thailand by 0.87%, Shanghai up 0.87%.

I am holding on as the fall is not widespread, should recover in days rather than weeks.

my 2cents worth

Anyone knows what actually happen today?  Some big institutions must be behind this.  Looks like a concerted effort as most of the stocks were brought down.  Any comments? Smiley

Phew... a sigh of relief. There's no major event in the world that caused this drop. Its a local panic, probably due to the gov announcement to raise fees.

Rebound near end of day. Many will try to sell tomorrow, a kiasu herd reaction, so shortists play tomorrow.

Those with faith will stay and pick up "crashed" pieces, especially blue chips.

Me affected too, but got small portfolio, so waiting to pick up crashed ones... hehe..Smiley

Dear investors, "the optimist sees opportunity in every danger, the pessimist sees danger in every opportunity". Major correction maybe a good chance to bottom fish if you intend to stay long and do your homework promptly. I would recomend value stocks like SPH, Singtel, ST Engg, ComfortDelgo, SMRT...etc which are not only shock resistant, they pay good dividends.

hi Pong888, re your question on SPC bucking the trend... pls go to SPC thread for answer... briefly SPC is a defensive stock... plus oil is all time high... and with nuclear power station out in Japan they have to import more oil for energy in the interim until it is repaired...

I think this will be a major correction, (or a crash), cos DOW is at all time high, Oil price is at all time high, US dollars is at all time low, earthquake in Japan, causing Nuclear plant leak, the leak is worst than at first thought off. Many investors are caught by surprise, no time to sell off when it started at around 3.45pm, after 'gamen' announced property development charges increased from 50% to 70%, many are working, unaware of what is happening.   This is my personal opinion ONLY, but but may think this a good time to bottom fish, it all depends on every individual.

SPC shares up despite..major sell-down ??? why ???

my guess is funds buying becoz 1 of their refineries getting listed soon...

today sell-down is expected after almost 1 month of cheonging...

With so many IPOS, M&A activites around the region this time , i dont think this is it...

after a little rest.... the legs can run again............

so the whole thing start at 3pm plus? i was away from poems.. if i monitor the whole day, i will act fast enough to sell away at 3pm plus. i think i better subscribe to some sms service to notify me if there is a low price hit in the stock. or consider sohguanh approach in buying into 52 weeks low.

oil is high not becos of partly iran..but majority becos of US$ going down...remember oil is px in US$..so when dollar down oil have to move up to offset..due to US$ depreciating..a number of middle east countries is not accepting the dollar for their oil...dollar is touching historical low...over the last 30 yrs it had touch 80 only 4 times, but this time they are in deeper trouble...we will see a 1929...soon..hope not..all dies with the American..

Reminds me of a friend who was caught in the 1997 financial crisis...... everything he buys make profit, suddenly one day....whole maket collaspe, no time to react, no buyers in the market...hold onto the shares and sold off his company and 3 pte houses...became a bankruptcy...at least now he is discharged.

Keep warning and guiding me when i started investing a few months back.

To him, a mini 1997 if he were to watch what happened today.

This may be the begining of the end of the super bull market. Major markets around the world are setting new multi-year high, major currencies are setting new low, some new high, oil come close to all time high....etc.

Dear investors/punters, market correction will come sooner or later...so stay alert and think of your family members and friends, don't sacrifice yourself in the market.
