agree, it seem this counter is very range bounded counter. sold my vesting and moved to other counters. For Tech stocks, there is UTAC Chartered and even Stats which are more favourite counter for speculators before GT. I think it is best to enter when it breaks the range. money is better vested elsewhere at the moment than to waste time and opportunity cost.

Euphoria is over. No catalyst currently for this share to move right now. Might go to 23-23.5 soon...

1,000,000 shares bought up today at 4.23.16pm at $0.245. Just before this there was another 200,000 shares. After this another 250,000 shares. I think it is gathering momentum again.

UMC and TSMC are two major customers of GT and if their demand and order book goes up..GT order books will also follow in going up..

Take note of the last third paragraph..

"..The company and its competitors, including cross-town rival TSMC , are all showing early signs of emerging from the latest downturn in their highly cyclical industry."

Remember that semicon and techs are highly cyclical and their stocks follow in tandem..so now is the time to hop on..not when the upswing is in full force..

Look at current weakness as opportunities yah.. :)

Just to cheer up those who holding on to GT..look beyond the current weakness..

TAINAN, Taiwan, May 22 (Reuters) - Taiwan's UMC , the world's second-largest contract chip maker, said on Tuesday it expects to boost monthly capacity of its most advanced chip plant by 14 percent this year amid recovering demand.

"Our 12-A plant has a monthly capacity of 35,000 wafers and that will expand to 40,000 wafers in between half a year and a year," UMC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jackson Hu said at an opening ceremony for its new research and development centre in southern Taiwan.

The 12-A plant is UMC's most advanced manufacturing facility, making state-of-the-art 12-inch wafers. The company is building a second 12-inch wafer plant next door to the first one, with production scheduled to start early next year.

United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) is developing more advanced process technology and making cutting-edge chips for customers for use in a new crop of advanced computers and consumer products that are hitting the stores.

UMC has said the close proximity of the new R&D centre to the two 12-inch fabs will allow for the seamless integration of advanced process technologies from the R&D phase to manufacturing.

In Taipei, UMC's shares were down 0.26 percent at T$19.25, underperforming the main TAIEX's 0.36 percent gain.

The company and its competitors, including cross-town rival TSMC , are all showing early signs of emerging from the latest downturn in their highly cyclical industry.

Earlier this month, UMC said its April sales had fallen 3.92 percent from a year earlier, but the result was improved from March amid the industry's nascent turnaround.

UMC garnered sales of T$8.131 billion ($243 million) for April, compared with T$8.463 billion a year ago and T$7.549 billion in March. (US$1=T$33.4)
