hi Baseerahmed, welcome again... I note you made a name for yourself at the Simon Koh/Fortunegal meet......  you intrigue me when you say you watch Water margin (because you seem not to be Chinese by your name)... which character in the novel there typifies you?

hi macdhighprob , welcome to the fellowship....!!!   I note you are an insightful person... yes I thot Song Jiang has failed his men.. even though they are all faithful and true to their character... but Song Jiang too is a true to his character.. he is sincere but in this case sincerely wrong to have trusted the Imperial Court.... but the point is each of the heroes is true to each other and to themselves...Mos Eisley Cantina they had a good time together while it lasted...

hi Ipunter, thanks for your interests.. no, I dont do macro (at the moment).. I am more into sceneries, animals, flowers etc...so mine more telephoto... I am now onto taking birds etc... with a Tamaron 200-500mm lens... its light on the carrying and on the pocket... and for general use I go for the new Tamaron 18-250mm (it is a new lens.. just out.)..it should be very versatile..  I travel alot and like to take pictures to record my impressions...

you are into photography too...? macro work... they are actually very interesting.. but I am just too active at the moment...

In my opinion, NS has become so engrained in Singaporean culture that a Singaporean male who doesn't go through NS for some reason isn't looked upon with much respect. Its like he hasn't gone through a rite of passage.

but in fairness to Elf, i think she cannot understand NS because she never did it... and perhaps she doesnt have a brother who has done it...btw.. I have been to Israel twice.. (I really like swimming / oops floating in the Dead Sea and was very impressed by Masada ...) ...

while I am for foreign talent, let me clarify it is for real talent and for those that truely will contribute to Singapore ..particularly not like that former DBS CEO, angmoh Olders who came and wanted to close POSB bank, (and brought in frauds like Phillipe bar (?) plus the likes of even Jackson Tai who never did NS... you expect them to die for Singapore??

elf:

Indonesia - Suharto era & post Suharto era not much difference to Madurese people (from Madura Island in East Java) who migrate to Kalimantan. Once in about 7 years, they get slaughtered by the Dayaks (local tribes of Kalimantan) in central and West Kalimantan and driven out to the coastal towns, normally in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

Suharto era you just bribe the generals and they will control your workers - no strikes. And no terrorists killing Indonesian Christians in Sulawesi.

Post Suharto era you bribe the police commander right down to the lowest rank policemen and your workers still go ong strike. Many foreign companies have pull out of Indonesia and relocate to Vietnam/Cambodia/China.

And there are religious killings and terrorists everywhere.

So you see, its better to do business and live peacefully during the Suharto era.

Chin:

Your question on slash and burn farming and haze problem. I believe the haze will continue until the whole Indonesian jungle is burnt down!!!

If the Indonesian government solve the haze problem, the politicians have no more extra income. Aid (money) is sent to Indonesia by rich and badly affected neighbours. Actually, I think Singapore is the only country making the most noise about the haze problem. Malaysia (especially Sabah & Sarawak) is also doing open burning. Hey, plant a lot of oil palm - BIODIESEL is a lucrative business.

Shplayer,

Sir, Yes Sir, was from 1Cdo Bn Hendon Road Camp, which incidentally that piece of land will be up for sale and subsequent redevelopment, I think.

Though I'm out of the recall list, I will pick up arms and fight with my fellow Singaporeans to defend this land when called upon.  Jokes aside.
