Singaporegal, Lijiang gets my vote too. I wonder if you watched a movie by ZhangYiMou regarding a Japanese father retracing his dead son's footstep in Lijiang when the son was working there as a film producer. (A bit abt the movie first because I liked it alot), Unlike Zhang's recent movies where he tried to play with too much cinematography and stupid plot. The whole movie was filmed in Lijiang except of course scenes in Japan and is down to earth, more like his earlier movies. Most part of this movie was in Japanese.

Xi-an, is another Chinese city which got my vote. I was doing research on this city and found out that it is completely DIYable and not too costly. I know chinese cities prob don't sound as attractive as places like Istanbul. Xi-an's attraction to me is also due to its long history. 2200 years of history at least.

Dear Singaporegal.. Judging from your requirements (regional, cultural, & cool)  I heard Lijiang in Yunnan is worth visiting... it has 800yrs history, particularly the Old town is very scenic with mountain streams flowing in between: I imagine it is like Bourton on the Water,Cotswold UK but in a ancient Chinese City setting

http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/yunnan/lijiang/old_town.htm

Stream flows through the middle of the street with both sides of sidewalks and stores.
But I have not been there yet.. I will certainly want to when I have the time....

Travel?... Wow!...touo

You bet this thread is going to be filled...

For me, I go ecstatic like a foreign tourist whenever I travel along Orchard Road, Chinatown otravel r Serangoon Garden... Frankly I wouldn't feel any different even if I'm in London, New York or Rome.

But I do relish a  travel video, though... :)

Sporegal, You can check in this website (plus forum) http://www.cameronhighlands.com. We used to stay there 2 nights, then down to KL and up to Genting for another 2 days.

The climate doesn't sound too bad at all. What can we do there?

I've been there long time ago and visited farms and rose gardens.

Cameron Highlands' Daily min temp is around 15 deg C and max is around 22 deg C in June. Just nice, not too cold and not too hot.

How about sharing our best holiday experiences in this Fellowship thread? Travel is my hobby.

My best holiday experience was in Turkey. Istanbul was really amazing with all the medieval buildings and the clash of east and west. I crossed the Galatta bridge from Europe into Asia! Visited the ruins of Troy and stood at the very location where Hector was killed by Achilles. I'm a culture-vulture.

It's the elevation that makes it cool. Forest burning doesn't really heat it up that much. But smoke is more of a nuisance, though.

Try Cameron Highland for its cool temp during June hot weather. It is also relaxing and not too crowded.

I am thinking of going somewhere regional for a short holiday (3-4 days) in 2 months time. Can anyone give me suggestions? Somewhere relaxing, not too touristy and also not too expensive?

The ancient texts are our legacy of treasures.

We should really not let religious differences prevent us from learning the wonderful truths of our existence.

hinkiasu...

Yes... and you are simply marvellous too... :)

I just love Biblical scholars, together with scholars of other world scriptures.

But there's so much truth in the bible and other ancient books that only few have discovered yet.

And this is in spite of millions upon millions of religious people reading the texts on a daily basis!

There's amazing treasure (knowledge) there!
