Scoot? Likely name of SIA's budget carrier
AsiaOne | Thu, Aug 25 2011
But SIA said it cannot confirm the details of branding at this point in time.

SINGAPORE - Scoot Airlines may well be the name of Singapore Airlines' long-haul budget offshoot. The Straits Times reported that it ran checks and found that New Aviation, SIA's wholly owned subsidiary that will run the new entity, has registered " Scoot" as the trademark with the Intellectual Property of Singapore. When ST asked SIA if " Scoot" was indeed the name chosen for the carrier, company spokesman Nicholas Ionides neither confirmed nor denied the finding. He said: " Several names have been under consideration, but the management of the new airline is not able to confirm details of the branding at this stage." The carrier is slated for launch by the middle of next year.

DJ Tiger Airways May Raise At Least S$100M Via Rights Issue - Sources
Dow Jones Newswires | 25 Aug 2011 12:58pm
SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Singapore budget carrier Tiger Airways Holdings Ltd. (J7X.SG) is planning a rights issue that could see it raise at least S$100 million, people familiar with the situation said Thursday.
One person said the airline will announce the rights issue soon, but declined to give further details.
Tiger, which has requested a trading halt, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Many analysts have said the budget airline may need to raise cash to fund its aircraft purchases and bolster its weak balance sheet, which is likely to be further hit due to expected losses at its Australian unit.
Tiger Australia was grounded by Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority for six weeks that ended August 12. The grounding on safety concerns cost Tiger Airways at least S$2 million per week.
In a note to investors earlier this month, Citigroup said Tiger's debt level looked high " and we do not rule out more aircraft sale and leasebacks or an outright equity issuance to reduce gearing." It added that the latter move " would be a convenient option for Singapore Airlines Ltd. (C6L.SG) to raise its stake in Tiger."
Singapore Airlines owns a 32.8% stake in Tiger Airways, while Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd. has about a 11% stake.
Tiger Airways, which reported a net loss of S$20.6 million in its first-quarter, said the group's performance in the current fiscal year that began April 1 will be dragged by Tiger Australia.
It also warned that the Australian unit, which contributed 40% to the group's revenue last year, is expected to post a full-year loss.
Possible M& A activity?
