STI down 0.1% at 3177.58 after briefly trading in positive territory at open; index likely consolidating with mixed regional cues, also after Monday's 0.3% rise took it close to psychological 3200 level, which analysts see as hard to overcome.

Trader at local brokerage says there’s “nothing much happening;” focus still on SGX (S68.SG) with analyst reports coming out after news yesterday of its merger bid with ASX.

Says today’s reaction likely “more considered,” shares’ 2.6% fall to $8.72, shows view of deal not too favourable. DBS (D05.SG) off 0.7% at $14.50, OCBC (039.SG) down 0.2% at $9.07, UOB (U11.SG) +0.3% at $18.72; trader says interest in banks to be strong ahead of 3Q results starting next week amid ongoing concerns over effect of low Sibor on profitability.

392 million shares traded, worth $318 million; gainers, decliners fairly evenly matched; support at 3148, last week's low.

wow MF Global's rates are very attractive.... you must be a big client for them to give you such good terms

from website, it seems that IG Market is abit more expensive... commission 0.2%, finance sibor +/-2.5%

BullishTempo      ( Date: 26-Oct-2010 10:41) Posted:

MF Global called me at 9am, just after I made my donation, lol.

New commission rate : 0.165 %

 New financing rate : sibor + 2%

This is the lowest commission rate among all the DMA brokers, but financing rate not lowest.

Also MF Global don't provide very good charting tools, and the trailing stop loss not very good.

So I am also signing up for IG markets so i can use their Intraday charting.

BT, when MF Global get back to you regarding the revised financing rate, can you please share it here?

i am currently with city index, but i'm thinking of signing up with either MF Global or IG Market...... Saxo is too expenisve for me :(

came across  several  not-financial-savvy  millionaires bankrupted by  bankers' bad recommendations.

They would still be millionaires today if they had not met their sales bankers.

I always believe it should be about solving the customers problem and not first your own problem. Profits, as far as possible should be ensued and not pursued (at least not all the time). Do it right and $$$ will just flow in. Those who realize this will be off to a good start..... The success of Microsoft, Apple  are good examples.

I am so wary of agents/'bankers' who call themselves financial advisers when many are in fact as pharoah88 puts it,  just 'financial sales persons' out to make a comm rather than truly concerned about your well being

Singapore banks mainly made profits from loans [like Loan Sharks]  rather than on  providing profitable investment products to clients.

Yes well said. Forgot that bankers earn very sizable commissions from sales of financial products.

Not based on minimum transaction but based on past 3 months trading records. Must cross at least a couple of million volume transactions per month.

hi can someone enlighten me on this:

lets say i abstract this from POEMS trade summary:

price      trade       volume                  buy                    sell

1.08      87          5317000          4133000              290000

does it mean that alot of buyers buy at the price of 1.08? can it also means that they stock up the price at 1.08 and next movement is to wait for the price to go above 1.08? or can it also meant that shortists sell at 1.15 and buy back at 1.08?

pls enlighten me?

im trying to figure out the summary

haha... ok. So you want to be a banker? Probably a good choice since you are interested in investments. Your thinking may change a little bit once you hit 25. You will be helping your clients and the bank make money most of the time and not yourself. But you will learn much over there so its a good start.
