To add to Victorian's comment on US doubling oil reserves....the reason is so that USA can use it to stabilise oil prices should the ME and S American countries want to use oil destabilise to the US/world economy....thereby blunting oil as a weapon of ransom.

Tempted to get into the bandwagon but the trend looks like it is about to run out of steam. I'm just too gutless to believe that BBs will come in at anytime (and I could be wrong) and save the day. Since I'm not Lois Lane, me bet no one would even shed a tear. So I'll wait and see.

Dear Victorian,

thanks for the post, your points noted.. I think you are reading too many things that I did not say, but you have assumed I say, and hence this post but lets agree to disagree... :-)  meanwhile I remain vested... and we can renew the discussion till May after the ex dividend and see what happens to the stock... :-)  Afterall, it is an interesting stock

iPunter, the level which you entered (4.04) is quite low taking into consideration of 35c dvi you are going to get. Will advice kiwi77sg
to be extra cautious to enter at 4.40. Unless something compelling happen like bBoy suddenly feel interest, crude oil suddenly jumps over us$70 over short time etc etc.  So unless you are holding it long term, it may be range bound. There are other buying opportunities elsewhere for short term investment. Vested with a long term view.

kiwi77sg....

if u have been following SPC long enough, u will realise that SPC dun track the rise in oil prices. basically, it needs to pass 4.48 to continue uptrend.

but if u are confident of its prospects, enter now by all means. but i'll advise caution

Crude rises with heating oil as icy weather continues
By Myra P. Saefong & Ciara Linnane, MarketWatch
Last Update: 11:01 AM ET Feb 6, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Crude-oil futures rose Tuesday morning, tracking gains in heating oil as temperatures across the Northeast remained bitterly cold, raising expectations that the supplies of the heating fuel will decline further.
"Weather still seems to be the primary factor supporting prices and although some forecasters are calling for a moderation in temperatures in the second half of the month, [the National Weather Service] still has below-normal temperatures out through Feb. 19th," John Kilduff, an analyst at Fimat USA, wrote in a research note.
"Several weather forecasters are calling temperatures this week to be the coldest of the winter season, with heating demand expected to be 21% above normal this week after being 18% above last week," he said.
Crude for March delivery was up 1.3%, or 76 cents, at $59.50 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange after reaching a high of $59.99. On Monday, the contract rallied to $59.95 early in the day, then retreated to close lower for the session.
Heating oil, most of which is used in the Northeast, saw its March contract rise to $1.70 a gallon, up 2.44 cents. The price of the contract peaked at $1.718 on Monday to mark its highest intraday price since Dec. 26.
Natural gas for March delivery was down 4.4 cents at $7.59 per million British thermal units following a gain of 2.1% on Monday.
And rounding out the energy action, March reformulated gasoline gained 1.51 cents to stand at $1.575 a gallon.
"The East will have to endure more brutal cold today," forecaster AccuWeather said in its latest forecast.
The northeastern regions of the U.S. were covered with arctic air on Monday, creating some of the coldest temperatures in several years. Biting winds caused temperatures to remain well below zero, with reports of temperatures as low as 40 degrees below zero in parts of Minnesota.

hi, Victorian, thanks for a good post.. I have given you a tick/thumbs up...

your post brings me back to look a where we are going... a re look...re characteristics of a growth stock..

I am however not so sure if I can agree with you re your conclusions for SPC... for one the NAV value of SPC is >3, whereas the stocks that you quoted hyflux, osim, htl are all below 0.6....

we may be looking at different phases of the growth.. or the company characteristic are different... SPC business is changing i.e there is still growth, they are increasing their upstream activities, and the Oyong oilfields would quadruple their production in six months... refining though still core is facing a more favourable market... the US is doubling their strategic reserve.. and this is absolutely no small beer...
