Good thing about 2Q result is NOL cost of operating finally catching up with the low rate environment, just need 1 more quarter of cost saving then can breakeven in super low rate environment. 3Q rate is recovering nicely from 2Q depth, so most likely the key is how much saving and rate restoration can boost the profit. Most of charters ships are going to retire this year, enjoys the cost saving.

assuming slot cost is 2262,  so to get core earning u need to 2315 - 2262 = 53 per FEU.

To get  net earning  need to multiple it by 0.7 mil FEU = 53 X 0.7 = 37M then u can start to deduct whatever expenses.

I am calculating the slot cost before any other expenses, to breakeven u need to earn at least 100 Per FEU above 2262 that is 2362.

But again second half of 2013 would get lot of cost saving which  might lower this slot cost further.

I did a reverse calculation on ship operating cost for 2Q,

2Q average rate = 2315

Core earning before tax etc = 37M ( yes NOL reported a positive core earning after the hellish rate plunge in 2Q)

Volume carried = 0.7Million FEU

Operating cost = 2315 - ( 37/0.7) = 2262

So, just think twice who are paying the billion loss in last 2 years.

Where is the cash coming from, you will find it is from notes.

What is the objective of raising all these notes? Funding the new vessels.

So, new vessels start to deliver progressively. How is the payment? Of course have to pay progressively.

How long can this time bom last? Not too long, 2014 can see the bom burst if NOL still cannot turn profitable in 2H2013.

When NOL has default payment on new vessels. Will you support the right issue?

Wait and see. NOL future is past chartered semi con. Another biggest failure from Temasek. Burning our cpf.

The real challenge to container industry is coming end of 2013 till 2014. When NOL start to receive their 8000 to 12000teu container vessels.

Maersk, MSC and CMA start to receive their 14000 to 18000 teu.

NOL is always leaving behind. NOL financial status is a time bom. All the cash burning in these 2 years are raised from notes and supposed to use to pay new vessels.

Soon, you will see how NOL empty is after all new vessels delivered in 2014.

NOL till today still can't generate profit, their 500 million saving plan is a joke.

New vessels has been delivered since end 2012, still can't see any improvement in profit.

Very soon all these new vessels will be left behind in 2014.

You must be careful with any price spike, because this is the symptoms of raising right issue, pump price up and issue right. The number of share from the next right will be huge, and fully dilute your share.

200million gain from selling headquarter burning off continually.

What will be next to sell? Prepare to receive your right issue once the cash raise from notes are fully paid to the shipbuilders for the new vessels.

Interest from notes come in, cash will be burnt faster.

got the data just directly go to SGX company announcement then data is there, don go into individual company announcement.

NOL did a very good job with Europe rate crashing 50% and US rate dropping 15%, only lost about 35million. 3Q result going to be very good as the rate did a V turns in July currently rate  still holding to most of the GRI with the demand strengthening in US/Europe. Revenue drop like 300M in 1H, imagine when economy in US/Europe recovered as planned in 2H this year and next year would be good. Now is what the market would react next week as market had priced in a severe loss in 2Q but turned out to be a small loss. From data in 2Q, look like NOL shifted some of the revenue to the spot market. Lastly average revenue in 2Q is US $2315 and core earning returned a positive core earning of 40M, the operating cost must be dipping below US $2300 better than 1Q operating cost of US$2400. 2Q earning fear is over, now we are going to see good 3Q performance.
