SPH rose after DBS Vickers said that the firm's 2007 advertising revenue would be significantly higher than in previous years.

Based on figures from AC Nielsen, SPH's newspaper display ad volumes for May rose 21.1% from a year ago, while for its fiscal Q3, the increase was 14% from a year ago, DBS analyst Paul Yong said in a research note on Wednesday.

"This latest set of robust figures reinforces our belief that SPH's AdEx (advertising expenditure) revenues in '07 should be significantly better than in recent years," he said.

same old story, some brokerage houses covered the stock and giving a boost to the px. Actually those pt raised in teh reports are (again) not new, like awaiting revaluation of Paragon, better margin, improving revenue. DBS gives TP $5.25, bear in mind that there is no upgrade in TP. It has covered this stock with the same TP for awhile. Somehow no one listens previously but today suddenly everyone bought the story. (the same happened to COSCO before the run-up last week).

TA signals have not changed since I last posted.... generally bearish signals with downtrending Acc/Dist and Chaikin.

Dear Incirent, banks are required to divest their non-core asset. This is in view that they encourage merger of banks and compete with the world. SPH is not a bank. A holding company can hold many type of assets as far as they have $$. True thar media is the main core business for SPH. But other source of income are welcome. Just like us, an employee with a job, our main income are our salary. If we work extra, OT, we get extra $$. If we invest and get dividend, extra $$ are welcome. If we sold the share at higher price than we bought, $$ are welcome. What I see here is every $$ are added to the earning, even to the slightest of $0.0001 to EPS. Now as for the bubble that you mentioned, yes, there are bubbles everywhere. If SPH releases the Paragon before the burst, will SPH be spared for the crashed in the mkt? All will suffer, with or without Paragon. But with Paragon, it will still provide rental in that downturn of the mkt.

The principla business of SPH is in the media and any other undertakings are merely side investments. Recently, all Singapore banks are required to release all their non core businesses.

For SPH to release Paragon is logical and sensible because the investment has produced marvellous results. Similarly, the divestments of M1 and Starhub are most appropriate at the present moment.

Properties have been rising for quite sometime and has it already turned into another bubble? Time will tell. In any business, once profit is generated, it will then be harvest time.

Similarly, shareholder like me and anyone in this forum will release SPH if this stock has generated sufficient profit for the shareholder.

Buy low, sell high. Isn't this this motivation in the stock market? Smiley Smiley

In fact I do secretly hope that they do not let go Paragon. It's a cash cow in this period of property boom. I know when I say this, lots of ppl will throw eggs at me as the sales of Paragon will net a handsome profit for the shareholders. Let's see it that way, the rental is contributing to the earning of SPH....why sell! I think they shd sell Starhub and M1! and keep developing the poperty arms.

I have bought in more SPH today. It has been range bound for a couple of mths now. A reversal is ard the corner. Maybe after Paragon re-evaluation. Hope to see $5.00 soon.
