Being a share holder of a monopoly biz is good, but Time has changed. In the olden days, train are supposed to be the best proxy to economy because when economy is good, goods are delivered via the train line. If the owner of the train biz is so myopia and develop better train, then he has lost out because the Shipping transport was conceived, then the air transport. If SPH is sitting on the laurel thinking that they are monopoly to the media (paper only) industry, then are are on the wrong foot! Hope they are not what I am thinking. WAKE UP!

Hi Chin Chye..

I had the same opinion as your earlier on... but now SPH has to transform itself as the market has changed... With the internet, one can access news easily... there is no global demand from SPH... so the business is tough except that SPH has its old investment which can contribute to it future..

The opportunity in holding on this stock is too high... Unless SPH = Singapore Property Holding then the story will be different..

SPC & SPH are both companies that starts with an "S". But SPC cheong from $4 to now about $6 in a span of 6 mths. Thats is about 50% appreciation! But this elephant was from $4.30 to now $4.60 within the same time frame. Sorry I am singing differenr tune now. If all stocks in STI are range bound in the last 6 mths, I guess I am easy with this elephant. But most of the stock shot up to the moon starting from Jan this year but this elephant is doing the elephant dance here, moonlighting! I am just being human with emotion seeing others gain so much but I doing so-so here in SPH. Probably I am going to observe another quarter so see if there are changes to their biz structure. If not, I am OUT!

You are right. It is time for Allen to make way for new blood and ideas. Apart from SPH, other counters are rising like crazy. What is wrong with SPH? Allen Chan has got to go.

We need new young blood in SPH to turnaround this elephant. I think I will be out of this counter soon. Had been with them for a while now, but is disappointed with their biz structure. I am not saying they are bad, but just not pleasing me as a small share holder.

hlayer,

Appointment of ex CJ has no material impact on the current or future performance.

He was appointed to K1 Ventures about 8-9 months ago........didn't do anything for the counter....in fact its FA has deteriorated and so has the share price. But in all fairness to the old fellow, dont think we can pin the decline to him.
SPH always reach resistance at around $4.70 and start moving downward.  Have to watch this stock upward movement for last few sessions as this could be mid year window dressing buying by some funds.

They have done their revaluation of Paragon before 3rd QTR results.  Why should they do a valuation if their current core business is doing well.  Watch for their 3rd Qtr announcement before jumping in.
The stronger the resistance, once broken, the stronger the support.

DBS set target for SPH @ $5.25. This is due to its valuation. In the case of Capitaland buying over the huge mall of Paragon, it would not be $1.8 billion but much higher. In the case that SPH REITing Paragon, it would suddenly release a huge asset and reap a windfall, which in turn would be distributed as dividends. I remembered that Raffles Hotels sold off the asset at Cityhall to Capitaland REIT at record price of that time (2005) now looks silly. Of course Raffles Hotel group had indication from major owner Capitaland to do just that probably as there are much bigger plans. Judging from the activities of their buys and sells, it is a way of streamlining the business.

Foreign houses are quitely buying SPH at the moment, therefore the price stablizing as it is much controlled by market forces. Once they bught enough and release the valve, it would be too late to get in.

The revaluation of the Paragon from 1.52 bil (2006) to 1.82 bil  (2007) represents a 300 mil increase to SPH asset value.

This translates to about an NAV increase of 0.19 cts per share.

joshia86,

Traditionally, SPH does not declare divvy in 3Q.

Think the recent run up in SPH price is the revaluation of the Paragon to S$1.82 bil.
