Why buy when wave is up? Shd continue with your suggestion to short sell as you appear very certain SC will keep on dipping, may be to to '0'  (useless share - without any prospect?) . By then SC will have to be wound up

26cents is the prices for short sellers to aim for and revert to long after touching...... 26 cents just to share with all the great looser here......

Me at start suffer great losses from 58cents but follow the wave to short it down fiercely till xiao liao.......now till shorting ,,,,,,,when near 26cents I will start to accumulate for long....... Be patients....and .......

Hi, Shplayer, I like your objective and analytical insight. Yes, this result is indeed a wake up call for all those who are euphoric about the prospects of Gent Intl and SC after the award of IR. Agree to stay away until we see a clearer sky.

Just wan to add my perspective to all those hanging on in hope. Painful as it may be, but lets strip away the emotions and sentiments and look at it objectively.

• The FY2006 results was pulled down mainly due to the losses incurred in their USA operations. From the Chairman's comments, looks like it will continue to bleed the company until and unless they (the mgmt) come up with an action plan to stem the bleeding. From the Chmn's comments, this is not in place yet....and in my opinion, it'll take some time to come up with a plan and execute it. Meanwhie, the bleeding will continue.
• There is a high possibility that whatever the plan is, it may require some hefty write down (one off) of their investments => more losses.
• Those of you who are banking on the Sentosa IR to salvage their investment, please note that it will not be operational till late 2009 (almost 3 years away). Until then, SC will be sinking big $$$ into the project, funded by borrowings (higher finance cost) and issue of new shares (dilution).
• Revenue contribution from Sentosa IR (SIR) is not for another 3 years. Long time to park your $$$ without returns.
• Profit contribution from SIR is not certain yet. There will be certain start up costs and a period of gestation before $$$ flow to the bottomline.
• When SIR opens, one must also consider the 'Novelty' factor. Initially, the crowds will be very encouraging because of the novelty; but the key to success is to sustain it....cases in point...Paris Disneyland, HK Disneyland, Fox Studio in Sydney....all suffering, or suffered from the novelty factor. In local context...VIVO City, Crazy Horse.
• Unlike Las Vegas and Macao, the Spore IR have to operate under tighter govt regulations.....restriction on local patronage( for the casino), restriction on casino space, restriction on shows...(eg topless...etc). We have to consider whether such a model will work and contribute to the bottomline.
• All the successful theme parks I have visited have queues to the 'rides' and entertainment. They were all in temperate countries. Will patrons of SIR be put off when they have to Q for rides in  our tropical heat?

I know my comments sound pessimistic......but I just want to share my views with member who may be swayed by the optimists in this thread.

With fuel price down and new biz (destination cruises to China - for the vast China mkt), SC shd turn around for 2007.  Coz' that SC shd move north  -  let's leave that job to vested operators who surely hate to see SC being short down by short sellers (they have been enjoying grand feasts for almost all the past few trading days)

Star Cruises - Posts net loss of US$156.2 mln Serene Lim, 23 Feb 2007 Star Cruises reported a net loss of US$156.2 mln in FY 2006 from a net profit of US$17.9 mln a year before. It paid more in financial costs and on non-operating expenses. Full year revenue rose 15.1% to US$2.34 bln due mainly to an increase in capacity, with the addition of 4 cruise liners in the US, Hawaii and Norway. The amount would have been higher if not for the lower occupancy level and lower revenue yield from India in the winter and Eastern Mediterranean in summer. The company spent more on operations because of higher fuel costs, higher payroll and related expenses related to the US flag ships. Average fuel prices in FY 2006 were about 21.7% higher than FY 2005's. Star Cruises says its Superstar Aquarius will debut in Hong Kong in June 2007 and will commence daily international water cruises and some destination cruises to China.

 

Chaikau is spot on - just accumulate by averaging up progressively to keep for long term gain (so that one will not play into the hands of short sellers who love contra players)  - that is follow the short sellers as they cover up their naked positions.

 

Dont panic ---be calm -- dont sell into the hands of the shortists ---  just accumulate to avg up and watch how far these shortists or day traders can afford to go NAKED!!!
