hmmm...i think..education and character this kinda thing..very very debatable one la. No fixed way to look at it de. AS fairy gal say...character most impt...what matters most in life is being happy i guess...so as long as u earn enough to keep u and family happy..ok liao ba.

RT...life got opportunities one! from my limited exp and reading of ur post, u def got the talent and heart...juz wait for the opp to come lo..

who noes..maybe when u strike toto..u can use ride on ur kopi skills!! and create the next yakun....then call it rogue kun kopi.! i kopi lover..sure will support u !

Sggal : enjoy ur trip! rem to bring ur analyst skills along..go analyse wat numbers will come out in the roulette and HUAT big time!! =D

eastonday : yah..i agree..which is why i must fork out money to get a finance cert..haiz..all the doors seemed close to me rite now..even though i willing to take an intern position and pay to learn the trade...lol..bo pianz..gotta start again as "fresh grad" (though abit stale liao..no fresh anymore)

singaporegal, how come you didn't mention being a Big4/5/6 alumni before! There are quite a few of us around and was previously talking abt it.  Enjoy your cruise trip.

Rogue_trader: neber mind. There's hope tonight! Ok, now I will let you have to top prize and I will be the sole winner of group 2. You win it tonight, and tomorrow get into office and fire all those people who ask you to serve coffee!!! You have my support. And good luck for your exams. (but don't forget to give me a BIG big treat hor)

fairygal, having a degree definitely has no bearing on the person's character and vice versa. However, it helps open DOORS. That's face it. If you do not have the degree as stated in the job ads, you don't even get a chance to 'parade' your ware (your abilities, your good characters etc etc). Admittedly there are a few exceptions who did it without their degree. Those are exceptions than the norms. Quoting from a friend who is CIO of a major foreign investment banks in Spore. When they advertise for a position, they literally get hundreds or applications (being a foreign bank), not just from locals but from all over the world. It's just impossible to go through all of them. No prize for guessing it right, their first round of elimination process is looking at educational level and relevant working experience.

geojam,  me no phd la..... me only poly kia.... i too do not believe in educational system which is why i got dual front, office boy cum day trader... long story la... bt i think some forumeers here knew abt my sad story la... i think elfin also knew... u playing taichi again, bad geojam... dun wan teach me accounting and maths say la... if i of any good in investing, i wouldn't be pouring kopi for the higher-ups liao, and succumbing to the politics world of racism, pian xingness and blah blah blah... i witness how talents (my frens) go unnoticed just because they dunno how to ang kat n pulling strings... i just wish to be able to enjoy my cup of kopi end of day can liao.. trying to break away from the financial rat race by working doubly hard... n pls no suan me liao la, poly is not = phd...

fairygal, i assume that former asian scholar pushing her ex-girlfren is "affecting" u... ya, wat is education when one inner self sucks... bt if no education, one won't be getting that prized call from the interviewer... for me, education is only to let me land a job... bt if got looks, even better.. too bad, i relied on my "experience" and hard interviewing skills before i can land a salaried job... disprecancies in the employment system still exist lor.. take a look at the article by edmund last week... and there lots of people still in the unemployment rate bt is the "official" figures that we saw really "tally" with the real life unemployment rate?? i cannot imagine more as i used to be one of them... the unemployed with no looks, no degree and no strings to pull...

I observe that you all keep talking about educational level. I thnk hor, as long as one is not evil, does good, character good, then it's all tt matters. Got masters or PhD, if you are evil, also no use. Life is but a limited period only, no second chance, no U-turn!

Hi geojam,

I used to be from one of the big 5 too... but I find that the difficult part is not in the joining.. but in staying part of the big 5. Not many people can tahan the workload for a sustained period of time.
