One year to clear n remove fuel rod and 10 years  to contain..??. All told is about 40 years, but wait minutes......real problem it in removing 400 tons and more then 1,300 used fuel rods....rotting in the fully damaged Fukushima unclear plant.

Tepco is not so  sure on how to remove and if any further damage, it can cause alot more radiation explosion to regional counties like China, Korea, the U.S. including the whole of Japan, Tokyo and Yokohama.

No takers...for Fukushima waste left exposed and left in the open, " not under control" .

Japanese govt and TEPCO were scrambling to reassure folk  last Friday, after a senior utility executive said the nuclear plant was The remarks by Kazuhiko Yamashita, who holds the executive-level title of " fellow" at Tokyo Electric Power, seem to flatly contradict assurances Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave Olympic chiefs a week earlier.

TOKYO - About 150,000 tonnes of radioactive waste from the meltdown crisis at the Fukushima nuclear plant, including soil left over from decontamination efforts. This figure accounts for about 30% of all radioactive waste from the crisis, and results from delays in the establishment of temporary storage sites.

The Yomiuri Shimbun's research discovered that 36 municipalities in Fukushima prefecture are scheduled to set up temporary storage sites in 372 locations, but that so far, only 139 locations, or 37%, had done so,  23 municipalities had not been able to secure land for such sites because residents fears that the pollutants may be stored at the sites for longer than the authorities have promised.

A  detailed roadmap  by  Tokyo Electric Power Co  to remove the melted nuclear fuel, most of which is believed to have fallen to the bottom of the core or even down to the bottom of the larger, beaker-shaped containment vessel, a process that is expected to begin in 10 years.

Recent studies also suggest Japan continues to significantly underestimate the scale of the disaster ? which could have health and safety and food chains  implications far into the future.......

All told, decommissioning the plant will likely take 40 years.

Don't forget that

1. some fish can swim very long distance.

2. Fishes, like human beings, accumulate certain minerals in high concentration in certain organs. e.g. in human beings, we have high concentration of thyroxine in our thyroid gland. Thyroxine contains iodine which has radioactive isotopes!
[Image: 200px-%28S%29-Thyroxine_Structural_Formulae.png]

Hence, food with low concentration of radioactive iodine can give rise to high concentration in our thyroid gland!

Thyroid cancer risk for 2,000 Fukushima workers: TEPCO

Around 2,000 people who have worked at Japan's wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant face a heightened risk of thyroid cancer.

Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) said 1,973 people, around 10% of those employed in emergency involved in the clean-up since the meltdowns -- were believed been exposed to radiation to cause potential problems.

Figure is a 10-fold increase on TEPCO's previous estimate of the number of possible thyroid cancer victims, after the utility was told its figures were too conservative.

Radioactivity Contaminates Tokyo Vegetable, Water in Six Prefectures

TOKYO -  March 24, 2011 Radiation above the legal limit has been detected in a vegetable grown in Tokyo, Japan's health ministry said. This is the first time that elevated levels of radioactive cesium have been found in a Tokyo vegetable since the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant began spewing radioactivity into Japan's air, water and soil.

The nuclear plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power was damaged during the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami on March 11. Loss of power to the plant and failure of emergency backup generators caused loss of cooling water to the nuclear fuel in four of the plant's six reactors. Several explosions of radioactive hydrogen gas and two fires in spent fuel pools released radiation over a wide area.

The health ministry says radioactive cesium was detected in a leafy vegetable called komatsuna, or mustard spinach, sampled from a research field in Edogawa ward on Wednesday. The contaminated vegetable is not for sale in markets.

The health ministry says that level of radioactivity would not have an adverse effect on health, even if the vegetable was eaten.

Tokyo Metropolitan Got has lifted its advice against giving tap water to infants in Tokyo's 23 wards and 5 adjacent cities.

Governments of Fukushima, Ibaraki, Chiba, Saitama and Tochigi prefectures have detected more than 100 becquerels of iodine per liter of water, above the safety level for infants under 12 months.

The water is considered to be safe for adults to drink.

FUKUSHIMA: Pacific Ocean Will Not Dilute Dumped Radioactive WaterOperator of stricken Fukushima nuclear plant has been dumping thousand tons per day of radioactive water into Pacific ocean.

The reactors are ?riddled with meltdown holes?, building 4 ? with more radiation than all nuclear bombs ever dropped or tested ? is missing entire walls, and building 3 is a pile of rubble.

" Tepco Has Lost Control" - What Is Really Happening At Fukushima In Four Charts

After a self-imposed gag order by the mainstream media on any coverage of the Fukushima disaster (ostensibly the last thing the irradiated Japanese citizens needed is reading beyond the lies of their benevolent government, and TEPCO, and finding out just how bad the reality is especially since the key driver behind Abenomics is a return in confidence at all costs), the biggest nuclear catastrophe in history is once again receiving the attention it deserves. This follows the recent admission by TEPCO of the biggest leak reported at Fukushima to date, which forced the Japanese government to raise the assessment of Fukushima from Level 1 to Level 3, even though this is merely the catalyst of what has been a long and drawn out process in which Tepco has tried everything it could to contain the fallout from the exploded NPP, and failed. And today, in a startling and realistic assessment of Fukushima two and a half years after the explosion, the WSJ finally tells the truth: " Tepco Has Lost Control."

Big quake jolts cities across New Zealand
    The Japan Times-16 Aug, 2013

A powerful earthquake rattled major cities across New Zealand on Friday, sending terrified office workers fleeing as central Wellington shook ?like jelly,? but authorities reported no major damage.

The 6.5-magnitude quake struck at 2:31 p.m. near an area where a series of temblors occurred last month, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The latest jolt was felt from Christchurch to Auckland.

The U.S. agency, which initially measured the quake at magnitude 6.8, said it was centered 5 km east of the town of Seddon at a relatively shallow depth of 9.9 km.

A cluster of major aftershocks measuring up to 5.9 followed, but no tsunami alert was issued.
