Quad Core Creative HanZpad Tablet Passesc FCC Testing
Creative Labs is not the first name that comes to mind when you think about quad core tablets, actually Acer or ASUS come to mind first. However, this company is now responsible with making a slate with a four core CPU, the HanZpad unit, that has just reached the FCC.
This is a pretty standard WiFi tablet, that comes with surprisingly
high end specs, including an ARM 4 core CPU. Also a surprise is the
thickness of this model: merely 7.95mm, dangerously close to the
slimmest tablets ever, that are 7.7 mm thick. Creative HanZpad uses the
ZiiLABs platform, that is somehow associated to gaming, if I remember
well from the CES and MWC events over the past years.
The ZiiLABs platform is a system on a chip from a Chinese
manufacturer that’s made ideal to run Android 4.0. Creative will add its
own software on top of the OS and for now HanZpad is only headed to
china, before being released internationally. Specs of this device
include a 1.5 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, microSD card slot and a 10 inch
1280 x 800 pixel display, with an IPS panel.
After showing his Chinese Tablet to MM, LKY, then appear on Straits Times frontpage. Which gives a great publicity to occupy on the ST Sunday Time frontpage. Now the shares is coming back, it is still cheap to buy !!!

Meet Creative HanzPad, Its Chinese Tablet
Recently, ZiiLabs a subsidiary of Creative Technologies recently launched its ZMS-40 System-on-a-Chip. We wondered who will be the launch customer and lo and behold, it's Creative's HanzPad tablet for the Chinese market.
The  ZiiLabs ZMS-40 is a successor of ZMS-20 System-on-a-Chip silicon, bringing four ARM Cortex-A9 cores clocked 100MHz faster than NVIDIA Tegra 3 - 1.5GHz. These four cores are paired with an array of 96 dedicated " cores" which handle graphics and multimedia using Android 4.0 operating system (ZMS-20 only supports Android 3.x).
In order to gain traction for the product, Creative Technologies launched HanZpad as a platform for the Chinese market. That's right - even though the company manufacturers HanZpad, it will carry on branding from local Chinese IT vendors - as the market may not see hand in hand with the Singaporean brand. We're uncertain of this decision, but what can be done...
In any case, Creative even developed specialized software for the Google Android platform. Given Creative's experience in the Chinese market, we were not surprised to hear that Creative developed China-oriented software which utilizes encryption - it will only run on ZiiLabs hardware such as afore mentioned ZMS-40.
Software package includes Chinese handwriting software, Digital BriefCase (business) and eSchoolBag (education). No pricing or availability were announced, but given the arrival of first samples (mid-May) don’t expect HanZpad tablets before August/September timeframe.

Creative unveils HanZpad GS Android 4.0 tablet reference design
By Tyler Lee on 02/16/2012 04:54 PSTIf you were to shop for a tablet in China, there is a good chance that you might come across a tablet looking like the one above. That reference design is courtesy of Creative who debuted their HanZpad platform which is based on ZiiLABS’ 100-core ZMS-40 SoC along with a operating system of its own, also developed by ZiiLABS.
The HanZpad will feature ZiiLABS’ flagship ZMS-40 SoC, and will sport a 4-core ARM CPU that has been clocked at 1.5GHz, along with an additional 96-cores of separate StemCell media-processing array. According to Creative, the ZMS-40 SoC will be able to support ultra high-resolution display and will be able to playback 3D content in Full HD, all the while utilizing 50% less power. The company has also designed customized applications and content aimed at Chinese users.
Utilizing the processor will be the HanZpad GS tablet, a “premium” tablet with a thickness of 7.95mm, a 10” IPS display with a resolution of 1280×800, with 1GB of RAM under its hood and will feature a microSD card slot that allows for memory expansion of up to 64GB. It will also run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
No word on when Creative plans to launch the HanZpad GS tablet, or how much it will cost, but Creative has stated that they will be making these tablets available through OEMs.

BEIJING, China--Creative has chosen the capital of China to debut its HanZpad platform, which consists of various reference tablet designs and a Chinese operating system (OS) developed by its ZiiLabs subsidiary. The location for the launch is significant because HanZpads are tailored for Chinese consumers. However, these new tablets will only retail through its OEM partners (domestic IT brands in China).

The hardware
At the heart of each HanZpad is ZiiLabs' flagship ZMS-40 system-on-chip (SoC), which features a 4-core ARM CPU running at 1.5GHz and a separate StemCell media-processing array. The latter boasts a staggering 96 cores, which contributes to the ZMS-40's official " 100-core" moniker given by ZiiLabs. " The next chip will come with 256+++ cores" , Sim Wong Hoo, Creative chairman and CEO.
The following table is a quick comparison of the recently launched Tegra 3 SoC from Nvidia, though it is still unclear if its graphics-processing unit is equivalent to the ZMS-40's StemCell array.
SoC | ZiiLabs' ZMS-20 | ZiiLabs' ZMS-40 | Nvidia Tegra 3 |
Central processor | 1.5GHz, 2 cores | 1.5GHz, 4 cores | 1.3GHz, 4 cores |
Graphics/media processor | 48 cores | 96 cores | 12 cores |
Max memory | 1GB | 2GB | |
Android compatibility | 3.0/Honeycomb | 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich |
The software
Creative has also developed Chinese applications with its associate to further differentiate the HanZpad from its competitors. An example is eSchoolBag suites designed for China's latest digital textbooks and digital classroom initiatives, while the Digital BriefCase suites are suitable for other sectors such as finance and logistics.

These software solutions leverage on the company's over 20 years of experiences in developing Chinese-oriented products and educational content in the local market. An integrated encryption function in the ZMS-40 chip further provides piracy protection and the ability to lock applications for specific models of the tablet.
Premium model: HanZpad GS
The " GS" here stands for golden standard and refers to a 10.1-inch HanZpad, which is 7.95mm-thin with an ultra-lightweight and stylish design. Aesthetics aside, this premium model is also loaded with a ZiiLabs-enhanced Android 4.0 and a Chinese OS which allows for handwritten Chinese character inputs. A stylus dubbed HanZpen will be bundled to facilitate this function.
The HanZpad GS weighs only 480g and is 7.95mm thin.

Here are other noteworthy features.
- IncStage for wireless presentation and sharing of documents via compatible devices
- ZiiCamera for taking highly detailed panoramic photos of up to 40-megapixels and shots with 3D effects
- ZiiVideo for advanced video playback compatible with the WebM video format that's supported by HTML5
- High-resolution audio through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections
- Dual-display support with the TV displaying a different content from the tablet's screen
You might like to check out these key specifications, too.
- 10.1-inch, 1,280 x 800-pixels IPS panel
- 1GB memory and expandable up to 64GB via a micro SDHC slot
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
- 22-hour battery life
- 260 x 171.4 x 7.95mm, 480g
Sim cited a few reasons on his decision to launch the HanZpad in China. Among them are China's huge market and his passion for the Chinese language. He's also using the country as a stepping stone to expand into the rest of the world, but has not ruled out the possibility of partnering with companies outside of China to market these tablets.
Unfortunately, no availability and pricing information were provided during the launch, though HanZpad samples will be shipping to Creative's Chinese partners such as 3Nod Corporation by mid-May. Chinese students under its pilot programs will also be receiving the tablet around the same period.

This time no war but become a partner and collabrator with any manufacturers who might want to use his Quad core chipset for tablets and mobile smartphones only which Creative's chip is the leader in Quad core.
At this moment he is the new leader in this chipset but believe me Nvidia Tegra 3 is coming soon so as Apple new iPad 3 in the pipeline, but will they use their own developed chipset or existing one that can be found in market. No one know. Just my own comment here, hope there is no influence in your share investment of this counter !!! LOL.
I think that at least someone must be interested in using this Quad core chipset. Samsung Galaxy also use Nvidia Tegra2, maybe Google may drop HTC after HTC is having some issues and big G brother might use a new chipset ! All this are my own ponders in this semi-conductor industry.
For Stem-cells processor and ARM cortex platform, there is still some player like : Philips+SGS Thomson+Sony which Sony tablet is using ( I believe they use their own joint-venture chipset) and heard there is TI (Texas Instrument) is still in development stage maybe coming soon There is also Omap 4-5 and Snapdragon processors in the market !
But one must take note that Creative is just building a Reference Prototype models to show market they have the capability to provide a one stop solution, from design to mass produce. They want to be a solution house to build for anyone who wanted to use their chipset. This is a very new   game to them but new to this semi-conductor (IC) industries. Not an easy game to play, how about the components inventories and after products logistics and RMA (support and warranty).
Disclaimer : This is my own research and comment, hope it will helps anyone understand more about this counter. Do your homework and invest wisely. Good Luck !!!

Ah Hoo 'declared war' on the iPod in the MP3 arena (or something like that)...
The rest is history. Can this be another round, but with tablets?... lol...

The finger and the tablet is actual size in comparison ? What do you see !
What you see at challenge is just a test bed they try to test the market last year. The old tablet is a bit lousy is not the hardware, is the Android version in 2.1, not the latest honeycomb 3. Moreover, the old ZiiO tablet they did not get it certified by Google, and it cannot access Android Marketplace. They realise their mistake which users purchase a tablet, not just one to use Creative Zii-Store apps only, people want to use full Android applications from Android Marketplace. Whereas, the the touch response is lousy because it is not a capacitive touch tablet, it needs a stylus pen.
How about style-wise?
Is it as stylish-looking as the iPad?...

That is last Dec 2010 model, and using Android 2.1, the new one not even   production yet, they just produce prototype for manufacturer, meaning it will be like a one stop solution for any brands. Read the link in post.
Anyone can start their brand of tablet and Creative will produce for them base on their model ids and add any components like 12gb camera, to add or not add 3G features etc. Creative's next generation processor Zii-20 and Zii-40 stem-cells is ready. The Zii-40 is a Quad core processor, in the market now all tablet processor is only in dual-core (Samsung Galaxy, ipad2 etc). The only one can compete maybe is coming from Nvidia Tegra 3.
What you see at challenge is just a test bed they try to test the market last year. The old tablet is a bit lousy is not the hardware, is the Android version in 2.1, not the latest honeycomb 3. Now the new zii-20 and zii-40 are chipset processor, no tablet is produce yet. Customer like manufactures or example Viewsonic or any brand can use this chipsets to cater for their own development product in future.
I think Creative want to change their company model. Just my two cents of opinion. Good Luck.
