Somehow, I feel that though the defendant is SPI Electriclty Pty Ltd (majority owned by SingPower), it has a worried signal that SP AustNet is not total out of the 'liability'. Look like it will be a free flow with are these news (though that was the incident last year).

MORE than 600 people affected by the 2009 Kilmore East-Kinglake bushfire
have joined a class action against electricity supplier SP AusNet.
Maurice Blackburn Lawyers lodged a Statement of Claim against the
company for inadequate maintenance standards which led to the 2009
Kilmore East-Kinglake bushfire.
The claim was lodged in the Supreme Court of Victoria on 18 June against
Singapore Power International. SP AusNet general counsel and company
secretary Susan Taylor later clarified the defendant in the case was
AusNet's electricity distribution operating company, SPI Electricity Pty
Ltd, majority owned by Singapore Power.
?Court documents filed by the plaintiff?s lawyers incorrectly referred
to Singapore Power, instead of SP AusNet,? Ms Taylor said.
The action alleges that on 7 February 2009, a SP AusNet powerline broke
in Kilmore East causing the fire which resulted in 121 deaths.
Maurice Blackburn chairman Bernard Murphy said the Royal Commission
heard strong evidence that SP AusNet could have taken a number of steps
to prevent the Kilmore East-Kinglake bushfire.
Ms Taylor said SP AusNet has extended its full support and assistance to
the Bushfires Royal Commission.
"As mentioned previously, SP AusNet will vigorously defend the claims,"
Ms Taylor said.
"Otherwise, while court proceedings are in progress, it is not
appropriate for further comment."
