Hi-P’s share price has been consolidating around the mid-80 cents level in the past 1 week despite the company’s consistent share buy back program.
This is likely technical in nature as this level was the top of the shoulder formation when the stock broke below the the head and shoulder formation established in 2H 2012. Looking at the company’s persistent share buy back program (they have been buying back shares every day) since the company started 6 days ago, we believe that the stock will eventually break above this level and retest the $1 level. Besides their persistent share buy back program which they have bought 4.825mln shares since they started in mid-May ’13, we believe their improving fundamentals backed by the continued ramp up of smart-phones and tablets by Blackberry, Apple,Motorola, Amazon and stable demand from Colgate and P& G Group would provide positive catalysts for the stock. Forward PE of 13x is undemanding relative to its average of 15x.Upgrade to BUY by Lim  & Tan Sec.
CEO Yao also increased his share % in the company jsut filed with SGX.

Company started buying back shares at 78c recently on the back of a stronger then expected 1Q13 results and a rosier outlook from the group's key clients, BlackBerry and Apple.
Strong support with TP 90c in sight at least.More upgrade  on the counter  by analysts expected along the way which could possibly send a stronger signal to shareholders on the group’s confidence on Hi-P’s prospects.
Another 298,000  shares buy back today at 81.5-82c.
Today company bought another 709,000  shares at 82.5-83.5c from the market.
Shares deemed  to be under valued by the Directors.
Another 500,000 shares bought btw 81-82c by the company today.
Company bought 600,000 shares from the market at price btw 81-81.5c  today.

Counter is at +5% today, touching the $0.815 mark to continue its recent ascension after the recent spate of broker upgrades on the counter on the back of a stronger then expected 1Q13 results and a rosier outlook from the group's key clients, BlackBerry and Apple.
The  share price could take another boost after SGX fillings revealed that the group’s CEO, Mr Yao Hiao Tung purchased 1.8m shares (0.22% of outstanding shares) between $0.75 - $0.78 via open market transactions on 13th May13, which could possibly send a stronger signal to shareholders on the group’s confidence on Hi-P’s prospects.
Street consensus has 4 Buy Calls, 1 Hold and 1 Sell with a mean TP of $0.90.
Huat arhhh to all those vested.
Probably due to its low free flow, the share buy-back program for this
stock usually has a positive impact. Up another  3.5 cents as of now.
Just wonder how many shares do they buy back today.

I do not hold any Hi-P, but have read the CIMB report shown below by Octavia. What surprises me is the low free float (16.2%). No wonder its movements can be fast if it moves.
Despite an impairment loss from a fire at one of its factories, Hi-P reported better-than-expected 1Q13 results as its product mix improved and material costs fell. The outlook has turned sunny once again and we expect significant upward earnings revisions by the market. 1Q13 core net profit was 47% of consensus FY13 numbers and 48% of ours. Given the outperformance and more upbeat guidance, we bump up our FY13-15 forecasts by 102% on average and revert to a target CY14 P/E of 14x, the 3-year average (prev. 0.9x P/BV). Our target price rises from S$0.64 to S$0.86. We upgrade Hi-P from Underperform to Outperform, with these results being a potential catalyst.
In line with revised outlook
Hi-P's previous guidance for 1Q13 was similar revenue to 1Q12 but a bottomline loss. It then raised its guidance to profit growth for 1Q13. The better outlook was attributed to improvements in productivity, higher cost savings and a better product mix, offset by a provision for the damage from a fire at one of the factories in Shanghai. 1Q13's results were in line with the revised guidance.
Catalysts are back
Hi-P is likely to benefit from the launch of a mass market phone by Apple, its key customer. Taiwanese sources suggest that Hi-P won a contract to supply plastic casings for this product. In addition, we note growing acceptance of Blackberry's new smartphones, Z10 and Q10. Also, there could well be contributions from new customers such as Amazon and Nike.
Turning sunny again
In light of a better product mix and an improved outlook, Hi-P is guiding for a better 2Q13 on both yoy and qoq basis. It seems to be more cautious on capex, guiding for around S$90m for FY13. The balance sheet remains strong as Hi-P is still in net cash position. The share price is likely to continue its upward re-rating as the market plays catch-up with its improved earnings outlook.
