Anyway, can't blame the market for selling down UOB shares.

Even at $8 a share, Uncle Wee still did not buy a single share, meaning he thinks UOB is worth less than $8 a share, and with his wisdom, he is most probably right.

So hopefully, DBS and OCBC will take advantage of their much higher market cap and take over UOB, since UOB is little brother.

And it is ridiculous that before the DBS rights issue, DBS share price is about $2 below UOB.

After the rights issue, DBS actually narrowed the gap with UOB when DBS share increase by 50% and EPS decrease by 33%.

The market is pricing UOB to lose 1/3 of it's shareholder's funds and EPS to drop 33% more than DBS.

How can it be possible for UOB to eat up OCBC when it is now very much smaller in market cap?

If OCBC is 20% bigger than UOB, it is easier for OCBC to acquire UOB, and quite impossible for UOB to acquire OCBC.

Knowing Wee's character, he is more likely to eat up OCBC than being eaten by OCBC.

DBS is more interested in regional businesses.

UOB has changed from the largest bank by market cap in Dec 08 to become the smallest bank by market cap now in Mar 09, when there is no specific bad news at all.

Prone to takeover from DBS and OCBC since UOB is now little brother. If UOB really gets eaten up by DBS or OCBC, good for minority shareholders, but prob bad for Uncle Wee. But guess too bad, his bank share price collapse until so much smaller than DBS and OCBC.

BKs FY08 result: OCBC, profit tumbled 16% due to lower insurance, invs n trdg income, coupled with increased allowances.Tier 1 capital healthy. Nothing heard about dir bd going raise fund to increase d opt capital base. DBS, profit slumped 15% mainly attributable to a decrease in non-interest income n a rise in credit costs. D bk had boost up its opt capital base via R issue, and had been completed. Its 1 tier cap increase accordingly. As such it overtook UOB as d biggest lender. UOB, profit declined 8.2% on lower non-interest income n shr of assocs' profit coupled with surge in impairment charges. In UOB report, Dy Chairman mentioned that if d coy 1 tier cap decline to around 8%(if not mistaken, had posted ds much earlier) then d bd may consider to find ways to boost up d percenta. 1Q of all above Bks going to lapse end ds mth. If any bk foresee that they will incurr more write down owning to further impairment, then they hv to take d appropriate action to increase d cap base so as to deco their balance sheet. Esp now d Plastic Syndrome had been felt n mentioned all round. Issue R , AK guesses not likely ah, moreover one forumer confident that no one of d above bk would issue R again, if yes, he will pull down his pant. Above are AK guess's work, no call for anything, for sharing only.
