Hi Teeth53, I think you are very wrong.  If Wong Can't Sink can say the escape of that terrorist is not his fault and before the dust settle, and another escape in Courts, remember ??

So it isn't Ho Ching fault that we loss some peanuts of our blood money.  It is definitely not her fault or Tony fault or Dana fault, it is the fault of the world situation.

Of course, during good time, it is THEIR EFFORT as our supreme being has said ALWAYS.

Or it is actually our fault for allowing a one party structure.

I agree with Singapore gal. Averaging down is not a clever idea, even with Retail Investing in general. Nonetheless, we should applaud her for making things slightly transparent.

I dislike how the newspapers dismiss the recent losses in her time as "Paper Loss" and that they are in it for the long term. Conversely, all the Gains that Temasek made before that were "Paper Gains" ain't it? So what was the real effect of her time at Temasek?

Traditionally SWF seldom reveal what they do, only when she came onboard, that Temaesk start reporting yearly accounts.  I think it is to show off how superior she is running the SWF lor.

And before that, Temaesk wasn't that active in acq. of overseas company lor. Buy this buy that with our blood money.  Most of the interests are in local or stragetic asset class.

I think the only thing we should be more fair is to look at the next reporting.  How much do we have to write down ?

Haha... I liken Temasek to be like a goalkeeper.

When the team is winning and nothing goes wrong, no one will thank the goalkeeper. But when the team is losing and goals have been scored against them, the goalkeeper takes the blame.

The one thing I really disagree with is that they actually average down on some of their losing investments thus making a bad situation even worse.

Shin Corp : We have been blamed for coup. Pple then asked why buy ? How much does it worth now ?

ABC : Bought in 2007 and now it is bankrupt.

Barclay : Government aid recipient

ML : No more, did not cash in but transferred to BOA for their stock, another thread pple Yahoo at USD 6 now.  T bought for 20++ izzit ??

CHRT : Always lose money.

UBS : What happen there ?

Citi : I saw a report T loss 2B USD for every bank listed above.

If 52B loss is realized, I think we can build an underground City not just KPE tunnels...Did I miss any ??

I am starting to see news when pple are saying, why not press the reset button.  It is cheaper then spend trillions to save the world economies.....

Quite simply, positioning 40% of your portfolio in a single sector that is troubled is a major mistake and I don't think we should cut anyone in Temasek any slack on this. True, people elsewhere have lost half their money, but is it prudent to be taking such concentrated risks with state money? It was an utterly disastrous and stupid asset allocation. And I'm not saying this on hindsight. Not just me, but many people online were criticising the investment ONE YEAR AGO in late 2007 when our SWFs went on a buying spree.

True, we should give credit where credit is due but what was the return on investments under her leadership at Temasek for the past 5 years?

Interesting to note that the new CEO has experience in mining. Maybe this signals a new interest in commodities?

I wish Ho Ching well. In spite of the losses in 2008, she did pretty well as CEO in the previous 5 years. The financial turmoil in 2008 was an unprecedented thing - so I hope people do cut her some slack.

Even the Oracle of Omaha - Warren Buffet, suffered major losses. Hong Kong tycoons also reportedly lost 50% of their wealth.

Temasick only reported lost of S$ 2 billion. I expected even worst senario will play itself out this year. what about those many billion lost not accounted for.....as Obama has given himself three years or by then..the last lap...which is about 5 years away. it very norm to win nine out of ten, then one big lost..that it...finished..famous word let move on....
