Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said it is up to Barisan Nasional to decide if it wants to contest in the upcoming Penanti by-election. He claimed he has no influence over the government, to tell it to contest the by-election.

He also said it is “obvious” that Najib does not depend on him for advice, as evident in the appointment of certain individuals as minister and deputy minister. “For example, he appointed ministers and deputy ministers (who) frankly (laughs) don’t deserve to be ministers because they are (allegedly) involved in corruption,” he said.

http://www.malaysiakini.tv/video/16975.html

teeth53 thot: Question is ?, do his very son deserve to be a deputy ministers ?, he''s hungry for more power so his son can become a full minister ASAP..not d shortest way, the short cut way. Here he is japping again, never one movement he...and busy spliting venom, obviously at Najib.

http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/102874 and Penanti: If Umno loses, Mahathir loses nothing

Dr Mana | Apr 22, 09 3:48pm

The buzz now is ‘who is the prime minister of the country'? This is the question asked by many ‘political enemies' of BN from within and without. Every one knows that the PM is Najib. But can Najib steer the country free from Dr Mahathir Mohamad's interference?

Many are beginning to doubt this. Apparently, according to many critics, Pak Lah was squeezed out from power by the maverick politician, Mahathir. Could the same happen to Najib if he decides not to ‘listen' to Mahathir?

Before Najib decided on his recent cabinet line-up, he was somewhat ‘warned' that Khairy Jamaluddin should be excluded from the cabinet. When the line-up was announced, Khairy was obviously excluded.

Stop pushing for the crooked bridge
Koon Yew Yin | Apr 22, 09 3:42pm
Ever since Dr Mahathir Mohamad rejoined Umno, he has been interfering in the new government under Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Once again in the media and now, in his own blog, he is pushing hard for building the crooked bridge.

This time though, Mahathir is playing his last trump card by appealing to our Malaysian sense of patriotism and nationalism and by trying to whip up anti-Singaporean sentiments. This is clear from his first sentence on the subject as well as his last sentence as found in his blog posting on April 20 on ‘The Crooked Bridge'.

His first sentence notes that ‘The Star reported that Chinese businessmen in Johor Baru want the crooked bridge to be built' and his last sentence asks: ‘Does the government need to ask Singapore for permission to build the now desirable crooked bridge? Is Malaysia free to do things in its own territory? Are we really independent? I wonder.'

The public should note that the latest Mahathir blast on the bridge contains no clear or strong justification for building the crooked bridge - no economic reason, no technical reason and most important of all, no balanced analysis of the pros and cons of building the bridge.

The blog posting may, in fact, be construed as just a naked appeal to primordial sentiment. Hopefully, the new PM will not allow himself to be bullied by Mahathir but will stand his ground on this issue.

They were either rejected during the 12GE or during the Umno elections recently. Is this what we call democracy? Getting someone rejected by the rakyat into the cabinet is totally unwarranted.

    Mahathir Mohamad, the controversial man
    Political Observer | Apr 10, 09 5:10pm
I refer to the Malaysiakini report Mahathir, wife back in Umno.

Whichever is the case, the leopard can never lose its spots. Mahathir has removed three deputy premiers in 22 years. First, it was Musa Hitam, followed by Ghafar Baba and finally Anwar Ibrahim. Musa and Ghafar were Umno loyalists all the way whereas Mahathir resigned, criticised and condemned Umno when it was expedient for him to do so.

His grudge against his own successor, Pak Lah, and the latter’sis son-in-law, Khairy, caused Mahathir to continue spewing out venom for the past three years. On the one hand, he was supposed to have reconciled with his successor during the Umno annual general meeting; the next moment, he stabbed him further. This is a betrayal of friendship.

The country will still remember that it was Mahathir who removed immunity from the royal families, which was enshrined in the constitution. Umno and the whole BN machinery was backing him all the way through.
Whereas the British did it as colonial masters, Mahathir, an ordinary rakyat, turned the whole country against the royalty and stripped them of the immunity which was once accorded to them.

Our Malay brothers, I am sure, would recall the days when Mahathir openly criticised them, saying Melayu mudah lupa. Yet, he could not remember a thing when asked by the royal commission which probed into the VK. Lingam controversial tape.

The ‘champion’ of the Malays in his later days was hurting the feelings of the Malays themselves. This is probably the reason why a lot of young Malay voters swung their votes towards Pakatan Rakyat, because they realised what their parents failed to see under the leadership of the premier of 22 years.

    thot of the day....

This is probably the reason why a lot of young Malay voters swung their votes towards Pakatan Rakyat, because they realised what their parents failed to see under the leadership of the premier of 22 years.

    thot of the day....

this old horse will never change, fortunately his divide and rule tactics no longer work...but it's really hard to believe...10-15 years back, he was the most powerful, feared, popular and respected leader in leader in malaysia....today just look at how malaysians view him?
