Singapore, 29 April 2007 ? Mainboard listed JEL Corporation (Holdings) Ltd (?JEL?) and
mDR Limited (?mDR?) today announced that JEL is taking a strategic stake in mDR, in a
move calculated to enhance each respective company?s established trading, distribution
and retail businesses, as well as after-market services. The strategic investment by JEL
opens up opportunities for the companies to engage in business partnerships through
their combined networks in respective markets.
Both companies executed agreements whereby,
mDR shares representing an interest of approximately 17% in the enlarged share capital
of mDR. As consideration, mDR will acquire a 52% equity stake in JEL Corporation
(Africa) Pte Ltd, which represents JEL?s trading and distribution business in Africa.
Not sure how the market will react to this... but personally rather disappointed!

0803 GMT [Dow Jones] Mobile phone repairer MDR (A27.SG) may rope in consumer goods distributor JEL Corp (J16.SG) as strategic investor, says foreign brokerage dealer; "JEL has a division doing telecommunications. So there might be some tie-up on that front." Possible deal follows recent resignation of JEL CEO Tan Boon Yong, appointment of Gilbert Ee (formerly from Rabobank) as new head from May 1. Stocks halted; both companies say they're separately in advanced talks relating to strategic investment. Deal, if true, will mean JEL likely to become major investor in MDR as latter seeking shareholders approval to issue up to 50% of its share capital. (FKH)
