Sandbox,

Thanks for the encouragement. Today closed 0.755. If UTAC follows last year trend, it may reach $1.15 by next year May. It depends on the X'mas electronics sales next months. If the demand is there, and UTAC has the shares, the TA is still strong. Else it may fall again..

Now thinking whether to let go some first, and go in again when correction occurs...

Hi chew888,

Looks like you didn't have to wait too long for it to break-even (plus small profit now).

Q4 results will be good...  Cheers.

I think the semi-conductor market is improving caused by demand in Q4. However, factoring in the political situation in Thailand + the fact that they did not issue the bond because they have nothing else better to do, a further slide to 67 cts looks inevitable...

The bond due many years back and sold at a premium, 30 cents above the current price. Don't think it will have immediate effects on the current price.

The price stays somewhere around 0.705 to 0.72.. Unless there is really bad news, don't think it will go down to 0.64 level.

If so, I will have to "average down".....

Hi Nostradamus and the rest of the gurus,

With UOBKH raising its target price, how is it that the price of this stock is taking such a beating?  Does the issuing of bonds mean price will drop?  Is this also a good time to accumulate?

Thanks in advance for sharing.

Cheers.

UOB KayHian said it has raised its target price to $1.08 from $0.94 while keeping a "buy" call on the stock in view of the prospects for continued growth next year. It noted that UTAC's third-quarter results were in line with expectations.

"There is continued strength in the memory and analogue businesses," UOB KayHian said in a note, pointing to increased DRAM content per PC with the upcoming launch of Windows Vista and UTAC Thailand's capacity expansion for its QFN (Quad Flat No Lead) solution in the fourth quarter.

Nevertheless, UOB KayHian cut its net profit forecast for the current financial year ending December by 3.4% to US$73 mln.

Citigroup has cut its earnings estimates by up to 7% to reflect lower margin assumptions after UTAC's third-quarter results showed depressed margins trimming its earnings.

Citigroup said UTAC's net profit for the three months to September of US17.15 mln and gross margin of 22.6% were below its estimates. Net income rose 62.9% from US$10.53 mln  in the third quarter of 2005.

"Results reaffirm our thesis that margins, not sales is key to earnings surprise as margins were below expectations," Citigroup said in a note.

Citigroup said it is sticking to its "hold" rating on the stock with a target of $0.85 and recommends switching to other technology stocks Datacraft Asia or Chartered Semiconductor.

It is not the absolute number that matters. Market has certain expectation. In this case, 63% is short of market's expectation. For example, CIMB expected 69%.

Whether one should continue to hold depends on his assessment of this company's prospects vis-a-vis other investment opportunities. At the end of the day, it all boils down to opportunity cost. For me, I don't think I will look at this counter for the time being. Others may think differently.
