Cosco Corp. (F83.SG) is flat at $1.84, recovering earlier losses (it hit an intraday low of $1.80) which came on news the shipbuilder had received a cancellation request from an Asian ship owner for a 79,500 DWT bulk carrier contract.
DBS Vickers says “cancellations are not always bad news.” It understands that the ship owner is a shipping JV, where the partners decided to scrap the investment the companies were not facing any risk of bankruptcy.
“We believe this is a one off cancellation as it is rare for ship owners to cancel an order during construction.” It notes, cancellation costs are high given the forfeit of a 20% deposit plus a 5%-10% penalty, so this cancellation is “not a bad deal” for Cosco.
It estimates the contract price to be around US$50 million ($63.9 million), meaning “Cosco could lock in an immediate gain of US$12.5 million-US$15 million...in addition to this, we believe it makes sense for Cosco to continue building the vessel for a spot sale“.
DBS has a Buy call and a $3.16 target.

Just for thought.... Just 1 news, can have a lot of intepretations by different Analysis.... Every action of motive has been quietly executed in the markets... Just use the right tools to find them out, so that you can benefit it....
For me, I use my own methods and skill to enter or exit my trade without been affected by any news or noises.... Only believe in what I can see from my screen.... |

Cosco announced that it has received a cancellation request from an Asian shipowner for the contract of one 79.5k dwt bulk carrier. The vessel, which was supposed to be delivered in April 2012, has commenced operations since early 2011. As such, the shipowner agreed to pay a lump sum penalty in addition to deposit. We estimate the contract price to be c. S$50m. This means that Cosco could have lock-in an immediate gain of US$12.5m - US$15.0m for the cancellation. While we do not rule out the possibility of some cancellations and rescheduling going forward, it is not likely to be in a big wave. Maintain Buy and target price of S$3.16.

i join you today. for the following reasons: gap up today and divergence in macd. 1.95 is also my target. my sl is 1.7.

but from what i see, support is at 1.83 and then 1.77...... maybe i'm wrong and you are right

Cosco CANCELLATION OF ORDER ignite back 2007 dillemma where COSCO free fall in Oct 2007 from $8.00 to $0.69 Oct 2008.
Its a lousy time for cancellation or is it related. There is no clarification. HOW many more orders to go?
