you are have been on the planet for decades, first you compare your miserable wealth.

then someone comes up with the theory that owning a property gives you the right to "BET BIG ON SHARES", can someone also tell him that ppl only need to sell their assets for contra losses, not some "if the company which that have shareholdings go bust", the maximum you can lose is the capital utilised.

i'll just pretend all this is a joke where ppl forgot to insert their smileys.

I believe that kind of correction we see back at end of Feb is unlikely to happen in the near future.(I may be wrong, it's just my observation). If blue chip stocks like SPC were to fall 3 to 5% in a day, fund managers would most likely grab them up. Same thing happen to SembMarine and SembCorp. I want to add position in these 2 counters this month. But very hard. As long as these counters fall like 3 to 5%, they seem to bounce back even harder.

I often watch in CNBC and quite a few analysts say Singapore's stock market is attractive. Note that there are a lot of idle cash lying around because many foreigners park their money in Singapore as they see Singapore a safe haven. Government is also doing it's part in boasting Singapore as a welath managment centre. These idle cash can be in the form of invstment in unit trusts. Banks here are working harder too. They have so many so called private bankers. As long as they know you have idle cash lying around in saving accounts, they would call you up and ask you to put in FD and unit trusts. This thing happen to one of my relatives who is a foreigner.

Comparing stocks and property is not appropriate...

Whereas property owners can bet big on shares, the same cannot be said of non-property owners, since the former can at the very most (if their shares' company go bust) sell their property to pay for the losses.

before you guys continuing whining about which is a better choice of investment, stocks or property, please accept the fact that we are not rich aka poor.

100k is barely enough to buy a property, well you can use it as downpayment or to pay off part of the mortgage, and 100k in stocks is nothing to shout about.

i wish everyone all the best. and stop comparing who's not so poor, its like a tortoise racing a tortoise.

i wouldnt say that there's no chance of a downturn just because we are building this and that. when a downturn hits, progress at those locations might even get affected and take a longer time to fly.

dear idesa, i agree with your way of investment is sound but it is different for me.  personally I believe SPC is a blue chip, unlikely to go bust unless Singapore as a country is in deep economic recession which not likely to happen for the next two years (as we are spending $$$ to build IRs).  Even if it would be so, as you have said, investment of any asset including property will also go down in value...  the question I ask in investing in SPC is, what is the downside vs the upside..? besides I can always sell i.e cut loss if my judgment of the trend is wrong...

idesa, 100k could be peanuts to chinkiasu, he might already have a more substantial amount in property. speaking of property, i believe you guys are also getting calls more often looking for "Mr or Mrs Tan" (insert surname) recently.

If economic downturn, my property price will go down. But I still get to see my house. In the case of SPC, what will we get? Will they send you barrels of gasoline...lol!

CKS...20 lots @5.10 is over 100K. You really put your coffin $$ here! I am not so fortunate to have 100K as coffin $$. My $$ is locked in my property, I think safer. Stock can play play oni, I wun put 100K here. My maximum play is half of yours.

wah...thought today will close lower. Not knowing that someone comes at the last second and buy up 1,260 lots. What does this indicate? BB pressing the price down deliberately last few sessions so that they can snap them all up at one go! They have no intention to hold for long one. So to beat them, just hold on to the stock and win them by being persistant. I can't think of another way out. Stock mkt is inefficient.

oh Jackjames,  in today's case i seem to have saved 12 cts per lot..(bot 20 lots bet 5.05-5.15)..  if stock hits 6.00 later, and i sell them I earn 90cts for each lot I decide to let go...

chinkiasu, I believe you are buying to keep, ( for long term). Overall, most singapore defensive stocks are at high price, I will choose not to enter now especially u wanna go for long term... why not just relax and wait to see when china will sneeze again, in statistic, every 13 people in China, there is 1 person is playing stocks now... everybody in China was playing stocks, this is insane, because you don't see china stocks in SGX rises a lot, just name some familiar one like Luzhou, Hengxin, Longcheer, etc. even China index up more than 50% this year, but mostly china stocks in SGX didn't move much but heading down, surely, there are some others good upswing like china energy, etc.

my conclusion remains the same, be patient, and the crash is coming definitely... no need to enter in a hurry..
