elfinchilde : looks like we fighting different demons in different dimensions .. nonetheless fighting the demons .. we shall prevail  : ) hahaha .

having strong faith that there will be light at the end of the tunnel and taking actions is what counts .

Winston Churchill's words are permanently etched in me :

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight in the fields, we shall fight on the ground ,we shall fight in the streets, we shall never surrender ! "

and

"Never, never,never give up !"

Yes,I too was inspired by Rocky's advice. j3r0m3 has put it very nicely : )

Elf,

actually, life's problems are put before us to test us. It is often within our means to solve the problems, only thing is that sometimes we are too focused on the problem at hand that we forget to take a step back and look at the bigger picture to realise that we can actually do it.

So when you find yourself thinking that its a tough problem, just know that you have it in you to solve the problem. I think your "pets" all will know that too. Plus many in this forum whom have benefitted from your posts.

In the meantime, gambatei!

Elfin...

People take all level of risks for only one reason :- to make some money...

So it is not a question of the risk per se we are talking about...

Rather, it is the desire to make some money...

that make people bet beyond their means.

hullo all, thanks for your words of encouragement (i especially like CWQuah's "a/d lines keep going up". hehe). it's ok, i'll be fine. :)

might be a whiner but when it comes to the market i'm absolutely rational and focused. and yea, don't worry, i won't over-risk. i essentially go for the minimum risk required for the level of returns i want. to me, the most important thing in investing is the stop loss.

My risk/reward ratio is minimum 1:2.5. ie, for every dollar that i will lose, i stand the chance to gain at least 2.5. that's how i calculate if a stock's worthwhile. (of course, in actual market conditions, you take what the market gives, esp scalping trades; you don't quibble 'too small profit' or 'i should have run later'.)

sporeguy, yeps, the women of the past were real women. and yep, it's about being contented. don't gotta do something just 'cos everyone else is doing it. :) hm. if your mama's 73, what are you, 47-52? what is the average age of forumers here anw....

choohian! *hugs* you have excellent children. must have brought them up well, yea? a credit to you. :))) and yep. stick with a defensive portfolio. fact is, you don't have to take the kind of risks ppl like me are taking, we're at different stages of life and portfolio. good luck in all your investments and life!

hm. mebbe you should be our de facto grandma here. keke. if you don't mind assuming the role, of course. :)

and victorian! hire me! keke. i want the software tools. :P

Sporeguy  ....and survived to this age. What an admirable woman!. All I lost was money, actually our house- cheated by my husband's sister. My children struggled through their school life, earning and working at the same time. Their words were " mummy and papa, don't worry, we will support ourselves" and they were only in their teens.

Hi Choohian, my mum is 73+, she had never been to school (no chance to go to school). She had to work at very young age of below 10 yrs old, tapping rubber trees for her father, starting at 4am, met wild animals like tigers, etc, ran for their lives,

Hi Aunty choohian,

I couldn't agree with you more. Even though I'm probably half your age, I have gone through some bad times personally and professionally. But with each obstacle, I believe it made me a stronger and more mature person.

Dear elf, I think that you are a fine person and things will brighten up for you. I went through some bad times but I have emerged, a better experienced human being.

Hi elfie,

I saw the show "Rocky Balboa" and there's this scene where Rocky was yelling at his son for his lack of fighting spirit. Some of you might find it cheesy ....  but what he said resonated with me.

"Being a winner in life is not about how hard you can punch but how much you can take when life hits you."

Hi elfie,

I really admire your guts and your willingness to help out your family. Keep fighting and you'll see the end of the road soon!

Sporeguy, I wonder how old your mother is now. I believe she is right in a way, as she has a filial son. I have very unselfish and generous children but I have no need of their money because I do buy stocks with care and I have been able to earn extra income (salary?). Maybe I have been lucky.

Hi Elf, just before 1997, my mum was in a taxi, a taxi driver asked her whether she had invested in stocks. My mum did not buy any stock even though she had the money that I gave her every month. The taxi driver laughed at her for not doing so. He added that people will buy stock on loan, why my mum had the money and did not buy any stock. When my mum related the story to me, I told her that she made the right decision to have a peace of mind at her age. Invest within one's means, not on borrowed money. Earn less does not matter, what is important is the peace of mind and consequently health.

Health is more important than Wealth!

What's the use of having millions when you can't enjoy it??

Hi Elf,

All the best in your financial endeavours. Just remember health is also wealth too, perhaps the most important wealth.

May all the A/D curves in your portfolio keep maintaining a positive gradient. Heheh!

better to whine than to internalize, bad for health ...

it's ok not to post, the market is quite volatile lately, I see the way some forumners rush into a trade without considering the risk level of the counter is quite a concern...  important to be aware of our risk profile

cheers! hope all your trades work out well next week ;)

Nokia 6110 navigator is quite a nice phone, hmnn....I'm looking at n95, hope the price can drop fast ;))

hullo esmiley, you're up early on a saturday. keke.

perhaps you could call it a debt of obligation. but no matter. debt is a debt. and haha, no, as my pet bunnie/godpa/gege will attest to, i'm not tough at all. just a flipping whiner. ahhahahaa. :P

but as my pet puppy can prob say, ppl like us may kb a lot (ok fine, mebbe only me, not the rogue haha), but in the end, when push comes to shove, if we have to do it, we will. it's the kind of street pride i guess, that 'the more you wanna shove me to the ground, the more i'm gonna show you that i will win.' f the things around you.

why else would i be investing so hard for, anyway. locked in 46% returns alr, sitting on paper gain of further 26%, inclusive hh losses. hahaa. not done yet tho. doesn't work that way....thanks for your concern. *hugs* :)

anyhow, nothing's gonna get a good elf down! if i must scalp a trade, so be it. picked out two for monday already. keke. wish me luck. apologies won't post what they are tho, because they're highly risky, and i don't encourage gambling. i'm essentially doing it only 'cos i don't have much of a choice.

cheers to you and me! :)))

ok, gotta go have breakfast and start working....you take care. :)

The key to better health may not necessarily be more wealth.  I really think it has to do with the immune system, which is with us when we are born.  However, due to work-related stress this system may be weakened.

We can boost up the efficiency of this system and thereby not falling sick so easily, by pumping up our intake of lacto ferrine, a protein found in milk.  To find out more about lacto ferrine, log on to BioHealth.com

Like I mentioned before, if this company issues shares, I'll be the first on the shareholders list!!!!
