Temasek to sell SingTel shares
- Published: 26/09/2012 at 10:16 AM
Temasek Holdings Pte, Singapore’s state-owned investment company, is cutting its stake in Southeast Asia’s biggest phone operator by selling shares worth as much as $1.3 billion.

Temasek is offering 400 million shares in Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (ST), representing a 2.5 percent stake, at between S$3.20 and S$3.25, according to terms obtained by Bloomberg News. The shares closed trading in Singapore yesterday at S$3.33. Temasek has an option to increase the offering by 100 million shares, according to the term sheet.
Temasek is selling the shares after the investment company in July reported a 16 percent full-year profit decline amid the global economic slowdown. SingTel has risen 7.8 percent this year, lagging behind the 16 percent gain of the Straits Times benchmark index. The phone company last month reported first- quarter profit that missed analyst estimates as currency moves and lower sales at its Australian unit cut earnings.
“As an active investor for the long term, we rebalance our portfolio from time to time,” Temasek said in an e-mailed statement. “We continue to be a significant shareholder in SingTel, which remains the largest company in our portfolio,” it said, without providing any numbers.
Market Value
Citigroup Inc. and Morgan Stanley are managing the sale, according to the term sheet.
SingTel spokeswoman Michele Batchelor declined to comment.
Temasek owned 8.67 billion shares, or 54.4 percent of the outstanding shares of SingTel, Singapore’s biggest phone operator, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Temasek’s stake is worth S$29 billion ($24 billion), based on its market valuation of S$53 billion at the end of trading in Singapore yesterday.
Temasek also talked to potential buyers for its stake in London-based bank Standard Chartered Plc (STAN), the Financial Times reported yesterday, citing people it didn’t identify. The Singapore investment company holds 18 percent of Standard Chartered, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
I believe some foreign funds are buying. Maybe some billion Thais? Or maybe Thaksin? He was here last week for F1. Maybe he saw Singtel advert and decide to buy. Lol

Temasek has engaged Citigroup and morgan Stanely for Singtel shares sales
If turnover is  $1.3bn , the commission is very fat for these two fund management allies.
Good KPI
