Let's see what is the magnitude of the impact on the U.S. retail sales tomorrow.......

.....U.S. retail sales tomorrow will be next major catalysts for market; "these will determine market movements for the next few weeks, if they disappoint it could trigger the long-awaited correction."

0648 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore STI remains on track to finish below key 2,900 mark for first time since Jan. 4; index last down 0.7% at 2,895.59 with support tipped at current 2010 intraday low of 2,886. Though mild bullish lead from U.S. futures (DJIA +18 points) should help limit downside for rest of session. Analyst at overseas brokerage says results of big U.S. banks over the next week and U.S. retail sales tomorrow will be next major catalysts for market; "these will determine market movements for the next few weeks, if they disappoint it could trigger the long-awaited correction." Blue chips mostly lower with defensive plays holding up best; SingTel (Z74.SG) +0.3% at S$2.98, StarHub (CC3.SG) +0.9% at S$2.15 and FTSE ST Telecoms index currently only sub-sector index in positive territory, +0.4%. as long as STI is still under 3000, I'll buy without fear....
My personal thinking...

0122 GMT [Dow Jones] STOCK CALL: Credit Suisse raises Neptune Orient Lines (N03.SG) target price to S$2.20 from S$1.85 on earnings upgrades; maintains Outperform rating. Says container shipper set to benefit from improving shipping rates; "NOL is leveraged to U.S. trade, and its 1H10 outlook is improving on potential higher Transpacific annual contract rate (starting in May)." Adds that prospect of higher freight rates improves chance that NOL will be breaking even again by 2H10. Trims FY10 net loss forecast to US$62 million from US$125 million, raises FY11 net profit forecast by 10% on higher freight rate assumptions. Says new target price assumes price/book multiple of 1.3x, which is mid-point between historical average and one standard deviation above. Shares off 0.5% at S$1.90; STI down 0.4%. (KIG) |
20% of WORLD's Container Shipping Capacity are LAID UP....
Current Container Loadings are IMBALANCED....
Many Container Ships are Fully Loaded ONE-WAY but EMPTY in their RETURN TRIPS.
If World Economic Trade situation does NOT improve, Container Shipping will BUST.
DRY BULK SHIPPING is doing BETTER ........
BEWARE....AWARE....CARE....
CUT LOSS....
TAKE PROFIT....
SHORT for MORE PROFIT....
NOL ever CRASHED to S$0.50 before....
When TOO BIG, can CRASH FAST TOO....

Container shipping is in a terrible state and I don't see any light in the tunnel yet. I am vested in dry bulk shipping since grain, coal and iron ore are all necessary components for emerging economies - food, power consumption and infrastructure development.

Short term don't need to care whether it can remain profitable next year or 5 years time. Long term investor better make sure they know what they are getting into. If you are getting in because you think NOL will surely turn around by this year and return to its 07 profit level and the share price will hit its peak of $2.50 (adjusted for stock split), you better think twice. A lot of research needs to be carried out on the sector and its competitors. If their competitors are profitable (Maersk is profitable), then it might imply a much larger problem.

I think 2.2 is quite possible. One analyst said 2.2 TP.
Market is forward looking. Investors buy NOL in anticipation of better economy in months or years ahead. If really good, I'm seeing it to move up further. Have to see next few months.
Hope NOL break the $2 mark soon.
Cheers.
just bought 10 lots at 1.90. i support u!
