The main reason is that people always think that when stocks fall, they must go back up eventually, no matter what the circumstances.
And this is most dangerous, since the person will then buy even more stock to gain time to recover losses.
But unfortunately no one can really tell when stocks that have fallen from the highs will regain their former 'glory'.
It is usually the act of averaging down that makes for devastating losses.

for those owning this stock now, please do not panic sell. It will only cause you to  incur  more losses if you do that. I suggest for those who own it continue to hold. It will rise back eventually. A piece of advise, to make up your losses, you may want to enter into the market again while it is low

I know what you mean...
I believe you are not intentionally doing it.
Much as I relish reading about Nicolas Darvas' betting methods,
I do not average up or down (seldom)...
Why make things complicated things for oneself?...

There's no such thing as 'becomes unfeeling'...
In loss, people are extremely full of feeling, even more feeling...
And this is the reason why numerous people committed in the past...

The all-important key-phrase is that " in time to come, it will go back" ...
That is the single most common reason why people lose real big in stocks...
